Duane Taylor

Myron Duane Taylor, age 60, of Duchesne, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016, doing what he loved, camping and hunting with his son and grandsons.
Duane was born January 2, 1956 in Roosevelt to James Myron and Ruth Ann Hamilton Taylor. He married Sheryll Getchell in Duchesne. Together they raised 3 children.
Duane spent part of his childhood in Vernal. He later moved to Orem where he graduated from Orem High School . After graduation, he moved to Duchesne where he worked on the rigs for a short period of time, and then went to work as a surveyor for the Bureau of Reclamation, retiring after 37 years.
Duane was a tough as they come, a mountain man in the truest form. An avid outdoors man. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, trapping, back packing and prospecting for gold. Being in the outdoors and with his family were his favorite things to do.
When he couldn't be outdoors he was found in his shop, "Grandpa's Doghouse," where he specialized in western crafting, trinkets and his own creations. He spent much of his time making special things for his kids and grandkids.
Duane's nick name was "Mtn Man Martha," even though he pretended to hate it, deep down the family knew that he liked the compliment. One thing for certain is his recipes were never the same two times in a row. He was constantly experimenting and making changes. Hot and spicy were some of his favorite ingredients, and running for water was what most people did.
He loved to take his best four legged friend, "Chloe," who patiently waited at the gate every morning for his ride on the property.
Some of the best times in Duane's life were spent with his dad and brothers on their many Taylor adventures. He cherished his siblings. He was so good to his sister Myra, who was 15 years younger than he. When she was a child she would announce that when she got older she wanted to marry Duane.
More than anything, Duane was a loving, devoted, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved to teach them. He left them with the greatest gift of all: his knowledge and love that he had for them.
Duane devoted his home life to making sure Sheryll and their home was fully taken care of. He loved Sheryll so vastly that being around them left an impression on everyone. Their love is a love that is so much more than just love. It's a timeless, consuming, old fashioned, two-souls-made-up-of-the-same-matter type of love. The kind that is often searched for, but not often found.
Duane is survived by his wife Sheryll, of Duchesne; children Lynn (Marsha) Verville Walhalla, ND; Shawn (Jenny) Taylor, Roosevelt; Christal (Russell) Moon, Baggs, WY; Tracy Taylor, Duchesne; Altamont; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; step-mother, Karol Taylor, Duchesne; brothers, James Russell (Vicki) Taylor, Pleasant Grove; Darin Taylor and his fiancAC., Shantelle Martin, Orem; Myra (Russ) Young, Duchesne; Kelly (Janice) Bird, Bluebell; and Suzie (Shane) Rowley,
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Duchesne LDS Stake Center. Viewings will be held on Wednesday evening at the church from 6 - 8 p.m. and Thursday 1 hour prior to the service.
