Maxine B Panas

Our mom, Maxine B. Panas, age 83, formerly of Altamont, passed away March 24, 2020, at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal.
Mom was born August 22, 1936 in Springville, Utah to Max Eldon and Tina Fontella Allred Birch. She graduated in 1954 from Duchesne High School. After graduation, she worked for the Ute tribe in Ft. Duchesne for a time until she went to Snow College and later to LDS Business College. Upon graduation she worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA, then for a few years at the Church Office Building where she enjoyed bumping into the prophet in the elevator.
Mom met and later married Nick Panas December 4, 1960 in Elko, Nevada, they later divorced.
Maxine worked at the Duchesne County Courthouse for almost twenty-five years as the Court Clerk.  She dealt with all of the attorneys and judges and was well known in the court system.  After her retirement, she worked for a time with Roland Uresk.
Mom was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved going to the temple and doing genealogy work. She had many church callings and enjoyed being Primary President and really got into food storage and taught survival classes and how to make candles etc.  Her life revolved around her family; she loved her kids, gradkids, and great grandkids.
Her other passions included tinkering with photography, chalk and oil painting, and especially gardening and yard work. She spent countless hours in her garden, yard, and the outdoors.
As her parents aged, mom and her sister Colene spent innumerable hours taking care of and providing for them until they eventually had to go into assisted living or the care center. Mom was in touch with all of her neighbors and would provide help at any time for any need.
Maxine is survived by her two sons,  Tony Panas, Springville; Chris (Angie) Panas, Altamont; one daughter, Heather Simpson, Houlton, Maine; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents; great-granddaughters, Lilly Wayman and Aspen Herbert; brothers, Don , Udell, and Kent Birch.
