October 25, 1934 — November 18, 2020

George L Swasey

George L Swasey, age 86, of Bridgeland, was called home to his Heavenly Father, on November 18, 2020. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born October 25, 1934 in Provo, Utah to Lucius R and Inez Durrant Swasey, and grew up in Duchesne. In his youth he spent time in Provo with his grandparents, helping with the turkey farm.  He had a love for all different kinds of animals. He graduated from Duchesne High School in 1952.
He met his eternal sweetheart, Jeanette Strong, in 1954 on a blind date – however, they were not each other's dates! He was later called on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served in the Eastern Canada Mission from December 1954 to December 1956.  Jeanette waited for him to get home from his mission and they were married March 14, 1957 in the Manti Utah Temple.
They lived in Salt Lake City for twelve years.  Five children joined their family while there. George worked various jobs including driving milk truck, and working for Pacific Metals and International Harvester in the warehouses.  The family moved to Duchesne in Spring of 1969, to help work the family farm. The farm was later split between George and his brother.  George loved the dairy farm.  A few years later, three more daughters joined the family, making a total of eight children.
George was always up for a good adventure. He loved to hunt and fish, going on many trips with his dad, brother, and family.  He always made time for his family and loved to tease the grandkids.  He spent many nights chasing the coon dogs with family.  Work was like having fun to him.
He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and was very active in the church.  He held many different callings, but the one he enjoyed the most was twenty-three years as an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple.  He loved the Temple and his family.  He always encouraged his children and grandchildren to serve missions.
George is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Jeanette, of Bridgeland; children, Annie (Chariton) Jacobs, Roosevelt; Rodney (Chris) Swasey, Bridgeland; Judy (Robert) Hamblin, Montwell; Michele (Michael) Hodge, Roosevelt; Merilynne (Anthony) Whiting, Neola; Rebecca (Matthew G.) Betts, Bridgeland; 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Amanda Prows, Herriman; Donna (Steve) Thompsen, Altamont; Maxine Jensen, Provo; John (Barbara) Swasey, Bridgeland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and an unnamed infant son; an infant grandson, Lucius Swasey; a sister, Ardell Gillespie, brother, Dean Swasey, and his parents.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the services will be limited to immediate family only.  Masks will be required.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020, at 12:00 noon  at the Bridgeland Ward Chapel.  There will be a viewing from 11-11:45 a.m.  Burial will be in the Duchesne City Cemetery.
