Carmelita was a homemaker and, besides raising her own, she took in many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and helped raise them. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows Perry Mason, Matlock, Waltons, WWF and WWE Wrestling. She attended Pow Wows, Bear Dances and Sun dances. In her younger years she danced at the Bear Dances as well as played softball (as a pitcher she struck out her niece Charlotte!) and basketball where she traveled to Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon to participate in tournaments. She supported her daughters/sons, nieces/nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at Pow Wows, beardances, sundances, and all of their sporting activities. She was fluent in the Ute and Shoshone languages and was a member of the Native American Church and Episcopal Church. She was a talented beadworker, seamstress, and bread maker and everyone loved her frybread, tortillas, and oven bread. She has sponsored a All-Indian Womens Basketball team NDN TIME and a All-Indian Mens Softball team NATIONS and a few All-Indian CO-ED teams in many tournaments and she was a dedicated NDN TIME FAN.
