It is with heavy hearts that we share that, Warren Duane Buck Oberhansly, age 48, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his loyal companion and best buddy, Ace, the service dog, by his side.
“Bucky” was born on July 28, 1977, in Provo, Utah. He was the beloved son of Warren Oberhansy and Charlene Stamps. Buck is survived by his mother, Charlene Stamps, sister, Julie Bargowski (husband, Craig), nephew, Bryce, and niece, Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Charles and Norma Crozier, and stepfather, Bill Stamps.
Buck loved hanging out with his maternal grandparents, Charles and Norma Crozier, and playing cowboy his first three years of life in the Uintah Basin.
After moving from Utah, Buck moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where his mom, Charlene, got him his first pair of skates at 3-years old. While falling in love playing hockey for Coach Dempsey, Buck forged deep bonds and friendships with teammates, many who became lifelong buds. Out of this crew many would go on to play Juniors and advance to college and pro leagues as well.
Buck went to Lake Placid for Select 15 and 16 at the National Hockey Development Camp. Shortly after, he moved to Chicago to play for Chicago Young Americans, then on to the National Junior League. He was a standout on numerous Junior's Teams including the Danville Wings (where they would play "Hit me with your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar, every time he got in a fight), Detroit Junior Wings, and Chagrin Falls.
Buck had a lifelong love for all sports, became an avid golfer and fantasy league "baller." His favorite teams were the Raiders, the NY Yankees, and the Chicago Blackhawks. Buck was a huge Cubs Fan. He managed Murphy's Bleachers for over ten years, where he exemplified the ultimate Cubs fan lifestyle.
He married and moved to his ultimate mountain dream town, Steamboat Springs. During his time there, he was proud to coach hockey for the Steamboat High School Hockey Team, The Sailors, and loved being the Grounds Manager at the Haymaker Golf Club. While he lived there he loved flyfishing and camping, and felt it was truly his soul's home. He also found his best buddy, Ace, while there and after living out adventures in Steamboat he and Ace moved solo to Salt Lake City for the last chapter of his colorful life. He loved still being near the mountains, his beloved nephew, niece, sister, and eventually mom and step-father for the last years of his life.
He will be deeply missed and always be remembered for his cutting wit and humor, ability to tell a long tale and hilarious and (mostly legal) stories.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Neola Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his maternal grandparents and other family, including his recently passed step-father, Bill Stamp who died on September 3, 2025.
