Wane Workman, age 92, of Roosevelt, Utah passed away at home on May 28, 2025. He began his journey on April, 22, 1933. Wane was born at home in Neola to
Hillary and Thelma Justet Workman, the 5th of 6 children. Times were hard during his childhood and this would make Wane the man that he was for his 92 years. “Work hard, treat others with respect, be honest and never give up”, were words that he lived by. Being raised in the country Wane learned to love animals, which was to be a major influence on the rest of his life.
Wane attended Altamont High School where he was a good athlete, playing basketball and football, which he loved. It was there that he met Jo Ann Ward. They were married in 1951. Wane and Jo Ann were in the grocery store business in Roosevelt for several years. They also built and operated the Cow Palace Steakhouse and the Gotta Stop Convenience Store in Fort Duchesne.
They spent many winters in Arizona enjoying friends the great weather and team roping and barrel racing.
Wane lost his wife Jo Ann in a tragic accident in 1987 which forever left an empty place in his heart. He lived his life with horses and roping, making many friends along the way.
In 1992 he met Jackie Churchill Haakinson and they were married in 1994. Jackie became his greatest supporter, friend, and love. Wane was a builder and enjoyed new projects. Jackie and Wane built seven homes together and enjoyed traveling to roping events. He never lacked for good partners wherever he went and won many roping events and owned some great roping horses.
He was a generous man and helped a lot of people throughout his life. His family members could always go to him for advice and come away with an honest, direct answer. He will forever be remembered by those who loved him and those who got to know him as a strong individual with a big heart, always willing to help wherever he could.
Wane is survived by his wife, Jackie, daughters, Tami (Dennis) Ferguson, Sue (Lance) Denver, stepsons Josh (Kim) Haakinson, Jeremy (Jamie) Haakinson, 19 grandchildren, over 50 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wade, daughter, Cheri, granddaughter, Shea Denver, granddaughter-in-law, Brittany Ferguson, brothers, Bill and Keith, sisters, Reta, Lola, and Nona.
Our Family would like to express our thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice not only for the exceptional care that they gave Wane, but also for their support and friendship at this time. We also want to thank Pastor Dee Cairoli and his wife Brenda and the Christian Assembly Church members for their prayers and support.
