Vivian Lee McConkie Winterton, age 89, of Roosevelt, UT, passed away December 12, 2025 surrounded by her family.

She was born May 26, 1936 in Tridell, UT to Reed Smoot and Jennie Goodrich McConkie. She was a self-proclaimed “tom boy” running around the hills of Tridell, climbing trees and getting into childhood mischief. “Pidgeon” later shortened to “Pidge” was the nickname given by her father because she fluttered around like a bird as a child. She attended grade school in Tridell and Whiterocks and graduated at the new Union High School in 1954 located in Roosevelt, UT.

It was there at Union High she met her sweetheart Keith Willoughby Winterton. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple October 26, 1954. Over the years, their family grew to 6 sons and 2 daughters.

She was always working crocheting, quilting, sewing or a baking project. For years, she sang with a ladies double trio performing at funerals and other special events.

In 1978, they established Basin Wholesale West and she did the secretarial / clerical work for the company until she retired. She loved the interaction with the community that she got from this on a day-to-day basis.

Of all titles she had, being called Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandmother and Great- Great-Grandma was her favorite. She meticulously made receiving blankets for every child born in the family and a quilt for everyone who got married. She later on would make crochet animals for each one of her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived the gospel every day. She served in various callings through the years including the Stake Primary Board, The Stake Young Women’s Presidency and the Ward Relief Society Presidency. She and her husband Keith served 3 full time missions: The Toronto Canada East Mission, The Orlando Florida Mission, and the Roosevelt, Utah Mission.

Vivian is survived by her 8 children and 1 honorary daughter, Paul (Teresa) Winterton, Linda (Dale) Batty, Ronald (Lori) Winterton, Kenneth (Krystal) Winterton, Blaine (Kristina) Winterton, Keith “Chip” (Dalyn) Winterton, Vicky Riding, Philip (Tracy) Winterton, Cindy (Tom) Pat; 42 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and many more “honorary” grandchildren. Her brothers, Dannie (Charlene) McConkie, Rick McConkie; sister, Pauline Derhak; in-laws, Eldon Winterton, Diane Galloway, and Bobbi Winterton, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by just 8 days, by her loving husband Keith; her parents; sisters, Jennis Betts, IlaRhae Gingell; in-laws, Grant Betts, Russell Gingell, Victor Derhak, Evelyn McConkie, Don Winterton, Jean Winterton, Bill Cook and Rodney Galloway; 2 great-grandsons, Dayson Rowley, Ethan Lewis, and 1 great-greatgrandson, Angelo Lutui.

A special thank you to the Canyon Home Care & Hospice Team, especially Miranda, Ashleigh, Jocelyn, Nadine.
