Veloy Farnsworth age 91, of Mountain Home, passed away December 20, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.
Veloy was born to Sid and Ilean Anderson Rust on Oct. 31, 1934, in Mountain Home, Utah, in her grandparents' home. Veloy was happily raised in Mountain Home and loved her cousins, especially Gladys. The two girls were born on the same day, on Halloween. They often joked that they were witches. She had one sister, Shirley Ann, who passed shortly after her birth in 1937. Veloy was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Farnsworth Canal at age eight. She attended the elementary school in Mountain Home and later attended Altamont High School.
Veloy married Lewis Farnsworth on September 29, 1950. Shortly thereafter they solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. They happily raised six children together. When Lewis and Veloy were first married they lived in a one room log cabin with no electricity or plumbing. They later purchased Rex Farnsworth's place and continued to raise their family. Later they moved to Lewis' father's ranch, Ronald Farnsworth, after he remarried and moved to Murray, Utah.
Veloy was known for her beauty. That beauty was in her outward appearance, but most of all in her heart. She was known for her kindness to all. Her home was always known as a sanctuary to all the grandchildren, even if they were naughty. The only time she muttered harsh words is when someone did something unkind to one of her grandchildren. She was always lovingly known as "Dearmom" by her grandchildren and many children in the community.
Veloy was a woman of many talents. She was a great poet, even though she did not graduate from high school. Education was important to her. Later in life she attended classes to help her pass the General Educational Development test. She was an amazing cook. She would feed her family and anyone with a need in the community. She could serve lunch to a whole hay crew, and then she would go out to the field to finish bailing the hay with the crew. She was also known for being one of the fastest cow milkers around town. She had milked cows from her youth. In her youth she had to finish her milking before she could attend social activities. It was common for her to ask her suitors to do her milking while she was getting ready for their social outing, and they were happy to oblige.
Veloy had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved being able to serve in various church callings from the Relief Society President for the Duchesne/Altamont Stake, before the creation of the Altamont Stake, to a Cub Scout leader of a rambunctious group of boys. She also enjoyed working in the temple for over ten years with her husband.
Veloy worked outside of the home for a short time. She worked as an EMT for many years. She also enjoyed working as a medical assistant for Dr. Teresa Stewart. She always felt her greatest occupation was being a mother and homemaker. Her home was always warm and welcome to all, and everyone always felt loved.
Veloy is survived by her children, Monte (Jane) Farnsworth, Kerry (Kelly) Farnsworth, Ron (Sonja) Farnsworth, Suzie Farnsworth, daughter-in-law Kathy (Jeff) Marrett, 25 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sid and Ilean Rust; husband, Lewis Farnsworth, a son, Sidney; a daughter, Becky; a grandson, Holden Farnsworth; a great-grandson, Preston Farnsworth; and her sister, Shirley Ann Rust.
Veloy's family is very grateful for the love and support of Canyons Hospice Team, with a special thanks to Chris. Her caregiver, Susan was amazing and became a great friend. Also, thank you to Dr. JD Marett, who provided amazing services. She loved them, and their service was very appreciated by her and her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Moon Lake Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There will be a viewing that morning at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the Mountain Home-Boneta Cemetery under the direction of the Hullinger Mortuary.
