Valerie May Scholes, age 39, of Independence, Utah, passed away November 27, 2025, at her home.

She was born August 7, 1986, in Roosevelt, to Sidney and Carol Sorenson Scholes.

Valerie had a mighty spirit that was confined to an imperfect body, but she was a happy young woman who loved horses, puppies, and babies, especially her niece and nephews. She enjoyed playing board games with the family, her favorite color was purple, and she loved her sparkles and bling. Her friends were her stuffed animals and she adored watching Gilligans Island and listening to George Strait. She really liked to sing and take rides through the mountains – the pine trees brought her peace.

Spending time with her friends and family - anyone really - brought her great joy!

Valerie is survived by her parents, Sid & Carol, of Independence; brother and sisters: Esther (Clinton) Despain, Fielding, UT, Craig (Alissa) Scholes, Parma, ID; Crystal (Daniel) Reynolds, Vernal; 12 nephews and 1 niece.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marc & Dennis Scholes; nephew Ryan Trosky; uncle, Wayne Sorenson; aunt, Terry Sorenson; grandparents, Walter and Marjorie Scholes and Glen L. and Lurrine Sorenson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ballard Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a viewing that morning from 10-10: 45 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
