Our beloved Thelma Dawn Lamb Shields, of Bridgeland, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Home on February 22, 2025. We will miss her dearly.
Thelma was born on March 23, 1940, in Glendale, Utah, to Glendon Osmer and Thelma Lamb. She was the seventh of twelve Lamb children. She spoke fondly about growing up in Southern Utah, playing with her cousins, and eating the pomegranates they grew in their backyard.
Her family later moved to the Uintah Basin. She loved playing basketball and spending time with her friends. She met the love of her life, Gary Shields, on the bus when he pulled on her braids. She graduated from Union High School.
Gary and Thelma were married on August 23, 1957, in Roosevelt. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 27, 1960. Gary and Thelma had five children who were their pride and joy: Toni, Cindie, Juan, Julie, and foster son Eddie Glen Reed.
She was the prime example of hard work. During her life, she farmed from dusk ’til dawn. She and Gary raised beef cows, ran a dairy, and farmed. She later went to work at IFA in Roosevelt, where she managed the store for 35 years. Farmers sought her out for farming and ranching advice because her expertise was second to none.
Thelma was the definition of a “green thumb,” which she passed down to her children. She loved her beautiful yard and garden, with its plum grove, mulberry tree, roses, and prized peonies. She was especially fond of supporting her grandkids, hosting family holidays, reading murder mysteries, diet coke, and watching the Jazz.
We are so grateful to Thelma for being our spunky mom, grandma, and great-grandma.
Thelma is survived by her children: Toni (Jay) Bolton, Cindie (Dean) Gilbert, Juan (Teresa) Shields, Julie (Merv) Glines; siblings, Richard (Candice) Lamb, and Karen Horrocks; grandchildren, Jaclyn (Chris) Floyd, Jennifer (Lance) Tree, Devan Fenn, Elija (Shaina) Gilbert, Amber (Jeff) Stringham, Chelsie (Dustin) Gilbert, Wesley (ValaRee) Shields, Lieutenant Colonel Chase (Lauren) Shields, Josh Settanni, Bradley Shields, Nathan (Emilia) Shields, Katelyn (Jared) Hinton, Jentrie (Preston) Willey; and great-grandchildren, Brinklee (Jacob) Zollinger, McKenzie (Tanner) Hunsaker, Nayvie Tree, Journee Fenn, Kaleb Gilbert, Cason Gilbert, Quade Gilbert, Averie Gilbert, Cannon Kindall, Oaklee Shields, Zaylee Shields, Mason Shields, Garrison Shields, Everett Shields, Hudson Shields, Amaya Shields, Gael Shields, Sylvanas Settanni, and Harvey Willey.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary; her parents; nine siblings, LaNar Lamb, Byrell Lamb, Jarius Lamb, Curtis Lamb, Laynel Lamb, Darlene Cox, Adele Shields, Mardean Lane, Catherine Neilson; foster son, Eddie; and her great-granddaughter, Jaedynne Gilbert.
