Susan Kounalis

Susan Kounalis, age 71, of Roosevelt, also known lovingly as “Mama Buggz,” passed away June 22, 2024, at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.     

She was born December 27, 1952, in Salt Lake City, to John and Virginia Small Kounalis. She traveled to and lived in various places in the world in her youth because of her father’s active service in the military. She attended St. Mary’s Academy and graduated from Judge Memorial High School. 

Susan worked for many years as a housekeeper in the hotel industry. She loved to be with family, especially the grandkids – she followed them wherever their sports or other activities took them. She enjoyed watching old Western movies and listening to the “oldies-but-goodies!” 

She loved animals and delighted in her two fur-grandbabies, Chicago and Benz. She enjoyed petting all dogs and cats, even strays. 

Susan is survived by her daughters, Linda Kounalis (Michael Dawes), Las Vegas, NV; Felicia (Shantae) Kounalis, Duchesne, UT; grandchildren, Nick, Isabella, Bethaney, Virginia, Axel, Khloee, and Kayzlee; and her best friend since kindergarten, Jeannine (Lane) Jones, of Draper. 

She was preceded in death by two infant grandsons, Kixton & Kashton, two other infant grandchildren; her parents; brothers, Sam & Jon Lynn Kounalis; Jon’s wife, Martha; and their two daughters, Cynthia & Cassandra. 

Per her wishes, she was cremated and there will be a burial of the cremated remains at a later date in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City.
