Shirley Wilkins

Shirley Anne Stoddard Wilkins, age 70, of Roosevelt, passed away February 12, 2015, at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George after battling a long illness.  Although she suffered for eight years in severe pain, she never complained and was always more concerned about others.
She was born May 6, 1944, in Roosevelt, to Edgar Bert and Evelyn Jeane Biberston Stoddard. She married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life,  Doyle E Wilkins on August 14, 1963, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They were married for 51 years and were inseparable.
Shirley was a gentle soul and brought light into everyone she knew.  Her willingness to serve and help others was unsurpassed.  Her fabric store, Shirley’s Fabrics, was a landmark in Roosevelt for 30 years, where her seamstress skills became a legacy!  She sewed for many in the community and labored many late hours sewing for those she loved.
She loved to have a beautiful yard every year with a lot of beautiful flowers, especially roses.  She labored many hours, and was proud of how her yard always looked.  She was a hard worker in every aspect of life and was a great example to her family.
Shirley loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren unconditionally.  She was always concerned about their welfare.  She enjoyed being with them and was involved in all their activities.
She was very talented in other areas and was accomplished at playing the piano.  She had a lovely alto singing voice and loved to sing with her sweetheart Doyle and loved when he sang to her.
She liked to put on her leathers and travel around the country with Doyle on their motorcycle along with the Temple Riders.  She also enjoyed spending time with her friends in Overton, Nevada.  It didn’t take long to make friends in the six years she spent there.  They all were so kind to her and helped her with something almost every day!  She loved the warm weather.   Boating with her family was one of her favorite pastimes and they spent many wonderful hours on the lake.  Lake Powell was one of her favorites.
Shirley was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in many positions and she had a beautiful testimony of her Savior.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Doyle; children, Teri (Jerry) Kulland; Cheryl (Robert) Howell, all of Roosevelt; Darren (Margarita) Wilkins, South Jordan; Debra (Pat) Sullivan, Saratoga Springs; Ryan (Heather) Wilkins, Vernal; Kelly (Chrystel) Wilkins, Roosevelt; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Larry Stoddard, Salt Lake City; Charles (Gloria) Stoddard, Mapleton; Rand Stoddard, Terry (MaryAnn) Stoddard, Anita Jacobsen, Sheri (Steve) Snow, Rod (Kathleen) Stoddard, all of Salt Lake City; sister-in-law, Rhea Stoddard, West Valley City; brother-in-law, Jerry Murray, Heber City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Evelyn; a sister, Carolyn Murray; a brother, Milton Stoddard; parents-in-law, Nelda and Elroy “Butch” Wilkins; and a brother-in-law, Ladd Wilkins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015, at 12:00 noon., at the Roosevelt 1st and 4th Ward LDS Chapel.  There will be a viewing on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and from 11-11:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
