Shirley Ann (Morey) Kellum was born on December 14, 1941, in Gassville, Arkansas, to parents Wayne and Clarine (Cook) Morey.
She spent her childhood in the Ozark Mountains of Northern Arkansas. She learned to swim, fish, and hunt with her father. Her mother taught her to cook and bake, sew, and to be an accomplished homemaker. She always kept an immaculate home. She graduated from Cotter High School (Cotter, Arkansas) where she was active in cheer leading and basketball.
After high school she attended cosmetology school then she had her own salon as well as worked in other salons and did some modeling for hairdressers' events. She always had her hair and makeup done beautifully and she took pride in her wardrobe and appearance. She also worked as a secretary where she was one of the first generation to use a desk top computer.
Shirley married Gabe Kellum, Sr., and they spent 38 years together before he passed away. They frequently moved for employment, so they traveled from coast to coast, northern border to southern border and lived in many places in between in the USA.
Shirley's journey on earth ended on August 2, 2024. She lived independently until her last day when she succumbed to the effects of Lupus, MS and congestive heart failure. She now has her wings and has begun her next journey. We will miss her terribly until we are together again.
She loved her family with her entire heart and soul. She had a special bond with her son, Gabe, Jr. and her granddaughter, Cassidy. She loved and was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's accomplishments and successes.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lorette Dart (Roger); grandchildren. Caleb Chidester (Chelsea), Colby Chidester, Cassidy Ames (Daniel), Joshua Kellum, Trinity Kellum, Chelsee Ferris (Mike); great grandchild, Brynlee Chidester; sister, Glenda Wood; and special cousin Lonnie Rumble.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gabe Sr., son Gabe Jr., and many extended family members.
A private celebration of life will be held on August 10, 2024. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Primary Children's Medical Center or Intermountain Transplant Center. Arrangements under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
