Sandra Kay Myore, age 78, of Ft. Duchesne, Utah, was called home to the Creator on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Uintah Basin Senior Villa.
She was born April 27, 1945, in Ft. Duchesne, to Cleo Shavanaux and Frank Myore. When she was a baby, she was given to and raised by her grandparents, John Turoop Myore and Abby Wissiup. She grew up around the Ouray-Randlett area Beardances, as her grandfather was the Catman. She attended school at the Whiterocks Boarding School, Alterra High School, and Union High School, where she became best friends with Annette Cesspooch, Violet Jenks, Smiley Arrowchis, Floyd Wyasket, and Wendy Pinnecoose.
Sandra worked at various places. She was a housekeeper at the old Bottle Hollow Resort. She helped Ms. Emmens with the Ouray Headstart, and was also matron at the Ft. Duchesne Jail, where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Franklin “Dobe” Murray, Sr. They were married in February of 1972. They were married for 25 years and then divorced. During their marriage, they traveled the United States and Canada with her father-in-law, Medicine Man, Julius Murray Sr. She helped as an interpreter during his doctoring.
Sandra was active in the Sweat Ceremony, Sundances, and Bear Dances. She enjoyed traveling, hitting casinos, Pow Wows, and, most of all, hunting and camping in the Hill Creek area. Sandra was a loving, caring person, she never judged anyone, and was always quick to forgive. She took pride in raising her younger siblings, her nieces, and nephews, and also her grandchildren. Everyone who knew her or talked with her, instantly loved her. She loved to joke and laugh. She was a very religious person, always willing to teach someone.
