Ruby Lee Murphy age 87, passed away on June 7,2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on January 12, 1939, in Mt. Erie, Illinois to parents Ed and Joyce Scott. Ruby was the eldest of three children and was later joined by two younger brothers whom she loved dearly.
In 1955 at the age of 16, Ruby married the love of her life, Teddy Junior (T.J.) Murphy. Together they raised four children: Teddy Lee, Tamara Lynn, Kelly Dee, and Karla Jo. Ruby and T.J. made their homes across Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio before eventually settling in Roosevelt, Utah in 1975. He died March 17, 2011.
Throughout her life, Ruby expressed creativity in many forms. Ruby was talented and crafty, with a talent for tole painting, gourd carving, sewing, and quilting. If you ever came to visit, you could always find her latest project spread across the dining room into the kitchen. Whether it was a quilt she was stitching together or a gourd she was carefully carving, the dining room was her creative corner.
Ruby loved traveling and was blessed to see the world alongside her husband, children, and grandchildren. One of her most recent adventures was to Costa Rica, a trip she thoroughly enjoyed. Out of all her trips, her cruise to the Mediterranean was by far her favorite, seeing the coliseum, ancient Rome, and the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona were some of the many highlights. The one place she always dreamed of visiting was Yellowstone; a destination she unfortunately never made it to.
Ruby leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and the many handmade treasures she created.
Ruby is survived by her four children Ted (Carolina) Murphy, Montebello, CA: Tammy (Tommy) Rasmussen, Cedarview, UT.; Kelly Murphy, Cedarview, UT.; and Karla Harrison, Roosevelt, UT. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren with a great granddaughter arriving in August and 2 great-great grandson with a great-great granddaughter due in October. Her brother Cary Allen Scott and her fur-baby Bentley.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband T.J. Murphy, her granddaughter Tyra Harrison, along with her parents, her brother Gary Scott and her niece Kelly Lane Martin.
