Ross G. Killian, age 91, of Roosevelt, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Roosevelt, Utah on March 27, 1931, to Van C and Merle Wright Killian.
Ross grew up in Duchesne, Utah. He had a happy childhood, swimming in the summer and ice skating in the winter on the Duchesne River and jumping off the old Duchesne River bridge. He graduated from Duchesne High School in 1949. Following his high school graduation, he worked cutting timber and driving truck until he was drafted in December 1951.
Ross was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and completed basic training at Camp Pendleton. He served as a telecommunication operator in the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Panmunjom near the 38th Parallel until the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed in 1953.
While he was in Korea, his parents moved from Duchesne to Roosevelt, and purchased a service station, tire shop and J. I. Case Implement dealership, forming Van Killian and Son’s partnership with his dad and brother, Wright. This is where he met his future wife, Glenda McClellan.
Ross married Glenda Rae McClellan on April 4, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah and were later sealed in the Vernal Utah Temple on July 17, 2009. They were married for 65 years and had four children.
He was in partnership with his dad and brother until 1969. After the partnership, he went to ranching full-time. Ross accomplished many things in his life, but one of his greatest was establishing Cobble Rim Ranch with his son, Tracy. Together, they manage over 1000 acres raising alfalfa, corn, pasture for cattle, and a feedlot. He actively participated in the ranch operation until the time of his death. His legacy will live on through the ranch and the work of his family. He served as an elected representative of the Dry Gulch Irrigation Company and a member of the Moon Lake Water Users for 15 years. He was Duchesne Cattle Associations Cattleman of the Year in 1990.
He loved his family and visiting with them.
Ross is survived by his wife, Glenda; children, Tracy (Peggy) Killian, Chris (Bill) Taylor, and Holly (David) Wilson; grandchildren, Nicole, Tyrel, Sharon, Michael, Stephanie, Kaedee, Emilee, Brayden, and Bradley; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Hunter, Wyatt, Chase, Ashlyn, Shaylee, Caydance, JLee, Kayzlee, Easton, Kennedy, Raelee, Rohyn, and Riggs.
Ross was preceded in death by his daughter, Dana Houston; his parents, Van and Merle; brother, Wright Killian and sister, Pasty Winters.
