Rosenaldo "Ross" Herrera

November 29, 1931 — June 13, 2024

Duchesne, UT

Rosenaldo “Ross” Herrera, age 92, of Duchesne, passed away June 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Ross was born November 29, 1931, in La Mesa, New Mexico, to Jose and Pauline Salazar Herrera. He married Olivia Gallegos on May 26, 1951, in New Mexico. She died September 24, 2023.

Ross grew up in New Mexico and that is where he met a beautiful neighbor girl named Olivia that he rode a horse or walked two miles to see. They soon married and made Duchesne, Utah their home in 1954 to raise their family. He was a dedicated provider for his family. In his younger days he worked as a rancher, in the oil field, and in construction. In his later years, he worked for Duchesne City where he retired. He was known for his great knowledge and was very well respected.

Ross worked hard, this strong trait started when he was a young boy to help his family. He had a sharp mind and would tell the best stories about his life. He took great pride in maintaining his yard, and had a huge garden and a small farm for many years. In their younger days, Olivia and he had a great time dancing with friends. They helped many families in need over the years; majority were strangers who they would pickup and invite to stay in their home. In his spare time, he liked spending time with family, traveling to see family in New Mexico, going to the mountains for a picnic, walking and loved to watch wrestling.

Ross was strong, independent and had the the most amazing laugh. Joking and laughing up until the end. He loved his family and had suffered great losses in his life. Especially the last five years, but endured to the very end. He was deeply loved by his kids and grandkids. Although we will miss him dearly, knowing that he is reunited with his wife and family.

Ross is survived by his children, Virginia (Robert) Bailey, Duchesne; Ida Herrera, Price; granddaughter, Kristi (Johnny) Johnson, Bluebell; who she raised as her own, 6 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Pat (Suzy) Herrera; Benny (LaDonna) Herrera, Vito (Debbie) Herrera, Carmen Herrera; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia; his parents; children, Rex, Rowlley, Rose, Sadie, Rusty, Lee Harris; brother, Nelson Herrera, and a sister when she was very young.

Per his wishes, he will was cremated.  Graveside services will be held at the Duchesne Cemetery on July 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
