Richard Myron “Dick” Brough, was taken unexpectedly this past week. His family is at peace knowing that he is out of pain and released from his daily sufferings. He passed away at the St. George Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah, on January 25, 2023. As his wife would say, "Dick down, no good."
In his 82 years on this Earth, he wore many hats. Literally. He had a hat for every occasion and sports team he supported. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, mechanic and so much more.
Dick was born on May 25, 1940, in Gusher, Utah, to Myron and Hazel Rushton Brough.  He was the oldest of their six children.
Dick loved team roping in his younger years, he belonged to the Avalon Roping Club. His love for the outdoors was obvious, he was always working on a project or as his family called it "tinkering". He loved old cars, and anything that he could get his hands on and rebuild. His love for gathering and keeping items, (his treasures) drove his family crazy. He never missed a grab bag at Smith & Edwards or a sale at Harbor Freight.
He married Karen Rae Bastian on February 19, 1960, in Neola Utah. Together they raised four daughters and one son in Roosevelt, Utah. Dick was a supportive father- from being at Stars Dance recitals to little league ball games. He supported his family as a full-time diesel mechanic and truck driver, working for many companies ranging from Wyoming to California.
His skills were second to none. If he became stumped by something mechanical, it was only a matter of time before he figured it out one way or another. Later in life his family termed it the "Dick Brough" way. Which usually involved duct tape. In 1982 they relocated to Centerville, Utah, for employment leading up his retirement in 2002 in St George.  He might not have always looked like it, but he was about as friendly and selfless as they come. He was always out helping neighbors and friends with projects or helping them find a solution to a problem.
Dick was very proud of his grandkids and great-grandkids. He never stopped talking about them or their achievements to anyone who would lend an ear. Whether it was recreational sports or motocross, his pride in his grandkids was undeniable.
Dick is survived by his wife Karen, their five children and their families: Becky (Jim), Sherry (Steve), Lesa (Brent), Nicki (Kipp) and Gary (Courtney) as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Janet Powell, Dean (Diane ) Brough
Doug Brough, Blaine (Cindy) Brough, Gayla Ekness, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Hazel Brough;  and his parents-in-law, Wesley and Virgie Bastian, and a brother-in-law, Calvin Powell.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 6, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Roosevelt East Stake Center, 502 North 600 East, Roosevelt UT 84066.  There will be a viewing from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Sybil and George Hemmet for their extended care, alongside many other friends in the St. George area.
