Randy Freston

Randy Lynn Freston, beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband and friend returned to his Heavenly Father, Thursday, March 19, 2015 after a valiant battle with a debilitating auto-immune disease.  He was 69. The void he leaves is keenly felt.
Randy was born September 20, 1945, to Jessie Vernal and Dora Lucretia Jenkins Freston of Roosevelt, where he spent his youth.  Randy lived more of life in 69 years than most people do in two lifetimes.  He knew the art of engaging stories of his many travels and of his fascinating friends and family.  He was quick to laugh, had a keen sense of humor and a gentle and kind heart.  He loved animals and always owned a dog or two. He will be sorely missed by friends and family the world over.
Raised on a farm, his work ethic was beyond reproach, helping with the farm and spending many days on the cattle trail.  His first paying job was at the Roosevelt Sales Barn when he was only 11 years old.  He had a long and illustrious career as a Civil Engineer and owned and partnered his own engineering firms for 35 years.  He married Anne Dye Paskett in 1964 and together they raised four amazing children.  They later divorced.  He later married Annette Oldaker in 1997 and they lived in Vernal for 10 years before moving to Kingman, Arizona in 2008.
Randy’s work took him all over the world.  He engineered and managed too many projects to list in Utah and in several states across the country.  He also worked in Afghanistan, South America on several projects.  Later he loved his work for Rocky Mountain Wireless Telecom, working in Texas, Arizona and Utah.
Randy was a skilled and avid trapshooter.  He was President of the Amateur Trapshooting Association in 1989 and served for many years as vice-president. He was inducted into the Utah Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 2000. He had countless shooting friends whose company he reveled in at the many trap shoots he attended.  His shooting ranked world-class and he won countless events and awards. He was an amazing coach and his talent as a gifted teacher will long be reflected in the skill of his students.
For a man with such a remarkable career, it pales in comparison to how he will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  He had the bluest eyes and a gentle smile.  His engaging laughter and amazing life adventures will echo in our hearts and warm us as we face our loss and celebrate his life.   He loved his children more than life itself.
Randy is survived by his wife of 17 years, Annette Freston, his four children: Cynthia (Dale) Peterson, Layton; Teri (Flynn) Paulson, Salt Lake City; Kimberly (Weston) Weaver; Randy Lynn (Holly) Freston, II; and his oldest brother Dorrant (Elberta) Freston, all of Roosevelt; his two step-children, Jennifer (Rhet) Perrett and Steven Gardiner, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wendall and Boyd and Sisters Verna Durfee and Norma Clark.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt West Stake Center LDS Chapel located at 150 South Skyline Drive. Viewings will be held Sunday at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
