Prentiss Glen Barker, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. He was born June 6, 1950, in Bridgeland, Utah, to his beloved mother Thelma Mathews Barker and father Calvin Barker. Prentiss was the youngest of 13 children who he respected & loved. He was closer in age to his nieces and nephews, and cherished them dearly. After losing his father at a young age, he helped his mother run the family farm, growing up in humble circumstances with little more than determination and ingenuity. He was exceptionally intelligent and truly a “jack of all trades.” If he could imagine it, he could build it. Prentiss worked as a professional truck driver, making lifelong friends along the way. But he was perhaps best known for his humor, generosity, and remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel welcome, loved, and important. His stories, laughter, wisdom, and unforgettable personality will be cherished for generations. His greatest pride and joy was his family. He adored his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many people he welcomed into his life and loved as his own. He was the person everyone could call when they were in trouble or simply neededsomeone to listen. He made each of us feel like his favorite—and everyone proudly called him one of their best friends. Prentiss had a deep appreciation for vintage cars and hot rods. He could take a rusted frame & transform it into a beautiful, award-winning work of art. More important than the cars, were the friendships he formed throughout the car-show community. His friends became family, and he loved them dearly. Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing Prentiss is now with our Lord and Savior and reunited with the family and friends who went before him. We can only imagine the joy—and laughter—he has brought to heaven. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Ann Sather; daughters, Stephanie Turville (Jason Turville) and Tiffany Phelps (Brandon Phelps); grandchildren, Brenden Turville, Hayden Phelps (Marriah Phelps), Mikki Turville, and Lexi Phelps; six great-grandchildren; and his beloved puppy, Susie. His great-grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. He treasured watching them grow and being their Papa. They will carry his love and a piece of him with them always. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Cleo Bennion, 1919-1919; Beulah, 1920-2011; Merle, 1921-2003; Calvin LeRoy,1923-2002; Harold Bird,1927-2002; Dale M, 1929-1990; Joyce Alice, 1931-2013; Bennie J, 1936-2006; Mary Ellen, 1937-2016; Charles Melvin, 1942-2021; and Karen Edith 1946-2019 Family and friends are invited to briefly share their favorite short stories and memories of Prentiss during the funeral. Although it’s not a car show, his hot-rod friends are more than welcome to bring their beautiful cars. We know he would have loved nothing more than to hear those stories and see those cars gathered in his honor. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his hospice nurse, Tam, the staff at BeeHive Homes in South Jordan, and his dear friend John Woodbury for their care, kindness, and friendship.
