Perry Eugene Getchell, age 70, passed away May 29, 2024 at his home in Bluebell, Utah.
He was born November 2, 1953 in Mohall, North Dakota, to Eugene George and Irene Edith Allen Getchell. He was the second oldest of nine children. He graduated high school in Dickinson, North Dakota, in 1973. After graduating, he moved with his family to Duchesne, Utah, where he met his soul mate, Tamela Hoffman, and they were married July 6, 1977, in Elko, NV. They moved to Roosevelt, UT, where they raised three children, Nicole, Bryon and Brad.
While in high school, Perry received many medals and trophies in wrestling and even worked with the high school wrestlers in Duchesne. After graduating high school, Perry started work in the oilfield. He worked all trades, from water gauging, pumper, oil rig driller and tool pusher. He traveled to numerous places for work such as Alaska and even traveled as far as Russia where his crew taught the Russians how to assemble and operate a drilling rig.
After his children had grown and moved away, he and his wife purchased property and a home in Bluebell. He loved relaxing in his yard under the trees with his dogs and cats by his side. He was an animal lover and their home in Bluebell made it the perfect place to have his own little animal sanctuary including his horses.
Perry enjoyed spending time with all his family, he loved to wrestle and tease his grandkids, whom he adored. He was his mom’s "Golden Child" according to his seven sisters. Perry and Tamela enjoyed riding street bikes when the kids were younger and then traded those in for dirt bikes when the kids were older. He spent his days out on the race track dirt bike racing with his sons and nephews and raced until the age of 51. His children would tease him that he would still be out on the race track with his cane and step-stool to get on his bike, and he probably would have if his wife would have allowed him. He loved to fish, although, he would not clean or eat them. He and his family enjoyed the outdoors, camping and boating. He even picked up the art of slalom skiing at the lakes.
Perry is survived by his wife Tamela; children, Nicole (Daniel) Cruth, Mountain View, Wyoming; Bryon Getchell Roosevelt; Bradley Getchell, Rock Springs, Wyoming; grandchildren, Brynlee, Kaylee & Jonathon Farnsworth; Braxton Cruth; Ryker, Ragen & Ryon Getchell; sisters, Sheryll Taylor, Tammy (Richard) Ivie, Karen Batchelor all of Duchesne, Utah; Dale Ann (Danny) Hoyt, Dickinson; Alaina Rasmussen, Stansbury Park, Utah; Annette Getchell, Vernal; and Sheila Mezenen, Winnemucca, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Allen Getchell, son-in-law, Bill Farnsworth; brothers-in-law, Duane Taylor, Mike Mezenen, and Rex Rasmussen; and a niece, Kallie Young.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary where a viewing will be held on Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
