Pearl Wilson McKowen, age 91, of Altamont, passed away May 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born September 19, 1933, in Arcadia, to James and Olive Mae Harris Wilson. She married Kenneth Jay McKowen on December 15, 1950, in Salt Lake City. He died March 10, 2003.
After Pearl and Kenneth married they lived in Salt Lake City where she worked at OC Tanner jewelry store. In 1967 they moved back to Duchesne where she worked at the school lunch kitchen and the Roosevelt meat plant. Later they moved to Fontenelle, Wyoming until retirement then moved back to Altamont where she has lived for the last 31 years.
She loved sewing and could fix any sewing machine. In Salt Lake she made the dance costumes for the dance classes.
Pearl was a wonderful homemaker and was a great cook! She raised 90% of her grandchildren and they were the love of her life. She enjoyed sewing and hitting up yard sales on the weekends.
Pearl is survived by her children, Marilyn Hamilton, Big Piney, Wyoming; Russell (LeAnn) McKowen, Selah, Washington; Patsy Sursa, Bluebell, Utah; 19 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lori Harper, St. George, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; an infant son, Randy; daughter, Terri; parents; grandchildren, Chain Hamilton, Brandon Peatross; siblings, Elva Ivie, Ross Wilson, Carl Wilson, Jay Wilson, Lorna Thompson, Mary Lou Smith; son-in-law, Heavy Sursa; granddaughter-in-law, Heather Christensen; son-in-law Rodney Hamilton, and grandson-in-law, Adam Ames.
We would like to thank Hospice for the great care they gave our mother & grandmother.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Altamont Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a viewing at the church that morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park
