Noretah Redfoot Martinez

Wendover, Nevada

  Noretah Alice Martinez, age 85, formerly of Wendover, Nevada, passed away November 17, 2024, at the Uintah Basin Senior Villa. 

 She was born February 8, 1939, in Ft. Duchesne, to Roger and Helen Price UncaSam Redfoot. She married Elvie Bruno, Sr., in California and he later passed away. She was a companion with Emegiro “Major” Martinez for many years until his death July 23, 2005.

 Noretah’s childhood home was in Arcadia and she attended boarding schools in Whiterocks, Ignacio Colorado, and Nevada. She worked and lived in Salt Lake City as a housekeeper at various hotels and motels. She was a member of the Native American Church and was a devout Catholic when Major was alive. She was a professional gambler and spent several years in Wendover where she made many lasting friendships. She was always ready to offer and give help to friends and relatives. She and her sisters were almost always together and they traveled to many places. 

 Noretah is survived by her son, Sam Shore (Betsy Chapoose), Ballard; grandchildren, Cory, Rachel, Samantha, & Tarrah Shore; Wass, Rainey, & Brock Chapoose; Daniel Santio; great-grandchildren, Lorene & Johnny Medicinehorse, Nick, Hunter, Jackson, Spencer, Jason, Laney, & Ethan Chapoose; great-great-grandchildren, Isabell & Ambrey UncaSam; sisters, Anna Redfoot Lee, Roosevelt; LaDeana (Darryl) Numan, Roosevelt; Kathleen (Pat) Martinez, Salt Lake City; Connie Smith, Salt Lake City; Linda Redfoot Washington, Randlett; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives.

 She was preceded in death by a sons, Elvie Bruno, Jr.; James Shore; grandson, James Aaron Shore; brothers, Jack Sr., Roger Julian, Thomas Norman, Marvin & LeGrand Redfoot; sisters Carma & Lateen.

 The family of Noretah would like to thank her family who helped with many things. They especially want to share special gratitude for nieces, Gwen Reed and Juanita Martinez

 Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Myton Community Building. She will be at the Hullinger Mortuary on Tuesday until 12:00 noon at which time we will leave for the community building. Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. and the wake will follow after the services. .

 On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, she will be buried at Elysian Burial Gardens in Salt Lake City.
