Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Nancy Ann Beal Gilbert, age 93, passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on September 29, 2026.
Nancy was born June 6, 1933, in Duchesne, Utah, to Austin Alma and Alice Dean Beal. She grew up in Bridgeland with four brothers and four sisters, all of whom she adored. Nancy enjoyed school and was active in student government, serving as president of the Pep Club her senior year at Union High School. Her younger years were filled with family and friends, dances at the Myton City Hall and Ravola Dugway, softball, horseback riding, and ice skating on Lake Boreham. She cherished growing up in a large family and close-knit community.
Nancy married her school friend and sweetheart, LeGrand Gilbert, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 21, 1952, with Apostle Marion G. Romney officiating. Together they were blessed with six sons and one adopted daughter and shared 64 years of marriage before LeGrand’s passing on March 25, 2016.
Nancy was known for her incredible work ethic, devotion to her family, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She served faithfully in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and freely gave her time, talents, and resources to family, neighbors, and those in need.
Nancy and LeGrand served together in the Denver South Mission from 2008 to 2009 and for many years in the Vernal Utah Temple. Temple service remained an important part of Nancy’s life after LeGrand’s passing. She continued attending weekly with dear friends until just two weeks before her death.
Nancy was rarely idle. She sewed clothing and made hundreds of quilts and blankets for family and friends and donated many to hospitals and the Church Humanitarian Center. She painted beautiful pictures of landscapes and nature scenes. She also spent countless hours doing genealogy and preserving family history, creating books filled with photographs, research, and stories for future generations.
For many years, Nancy worked alongside LeGrand on their dairy farm while raising their family. She tended a large garden, preserved and bottled food, and took great pride in keeping an immaculate home and yard. Nancy and LeGrand also opened their home at times to many others who needed a place to belong. Later, Nancy worked as a Justice Court clerk and then at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Roosevelt before retiring.
Nancy took tremendous pride in her family and was always ready to tell anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She loved visits from her children and grandchildren, attending their ball games, celebrating Halloween and Christmas together, and simply being included in their lives. Her family and her faith remained at the heart of her life.
Nancy is survived by her four sons, Bryce (Alene), Dean (Cindie), Thorpe (Lorie), and Jason; her adopted daughter, Lola; daughters-in-law, Beckie Gilbert, Clarice Gilbert, and Nikki Gilbert, who remain beloved members of her family; her siblings, Clarence (Gwen) Beal, Larry (Gwen) Beal, Joyce Fisher, and Janis (Danny) Manning; her sister-in-law, Joann Beal; and a posterity of 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LeGrand; her sons, Franklin and Lynn; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her parents, Austin Alma and Alice Dean Beal; her brothers, Keith (Ruth) Beal and Dean Beal; her sisters, Nelda (Glen) Mecham and Marsha Phelps; her brother-in-law, Max Fisher; and her sister-in-law, Jeanie Beal.
