Merlyn Uresk Cook-Solomon died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at her home in Myton, Utah at the age of 86.
Merlyn was born to Carson Taylor and LeOra Lowe Taylor on February 6, 1938 in Paris, Idaho in Bear Lake County. She attended Emerson grade school and graduated from Fielding High School. She went to college at Rick‘s College (BYU Idaho) where she got her degree in education.
Merlyn was called on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Nice, France where she learned to love the French language.
Merlyn began her teaching career in Duchesne and then taught at Roy Junior High School where she taught French. She married Matthew Uresk, Jr. June 2, 1971 in Paris, Idaho. Matt and Merlyn lived and worked side by side together on their farm in Myton, Utah. She taught at W. Russell Todd School and at Myton Elementary. After 22 years of marriage, her beloved Matt died on June 12, 1993.
Merlyn loved doing genealogy and finding her family history. She hired a researcher in England to find family member names. Merlyn worked with her sister Cleone Peterson gathering stories and family member names for Temple work to be completed. She served for many years in the Provo and Vernal Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She spent many hours doing family history work for the Taylor, Uresk, Cook, and Solomon families.
On June 20, 2000 she married Orlan Cook in Washoe, Nevada. Orlan and Merlyn loved going to the temple and traveling together. Merlyn had always been close to the Cook family as she and Orlans deceased wife Myrtle had been close friends and taught together for many years. The Cook family became her children and grandchildren and she was a kind and loving mother, grandmother - great-grandmother to them. Orlan passed away on July 2, 2002.
On, November 27, 2020 she married Marvin Leroy Solomon in Vernal, Utah. Her family to love increased with Marvin and his eight children. Marvin and Merlyn loved spending time together, sharing life stories and memories. They enjoyed going for drives, having lunch together, and visiting family. Marvin loved surprising Merlyn with a beautiful flower that always made her day. She was a loving kind mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother to them.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Leroy Solomon, many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Merlyn was preceded in death by her parents, Carson and LeOra Lowe Taylor, husband, Matt Uresk and her husband, Orlan Cook.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Myton Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A viewing will be held from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
