Cedarview

The funeral service will be live-streamed here.

Annie Merle Springer Anderton Powell, age 91, of Cedarview, died on April 25, 2024, at home with Boyd and her two daughters by her side.
Merle, or “Little Grandma” as she was affectionately known to her great grandchildren, was born in Lapoint, Utah, on February 19, 1933. Annie Merle was the third daughter born to Roy Joseph Springer and Mary Etta “Adelion” Davis Springer with an additional three boys and three girls to follow. She attended school in Fort Duchesne and was attending Alterra High School when she met and married the love of her life, Carl Levi Anderton. They were married on June 25, 1949, in Gusher, Utah. He passed away on July 11, 1994. They spent 45 years together in the Cedarview-Montwell area, farming and raising their two daughters. Love came into her life again, and she married Boyd Lott Powell on February 28, 2004, in Roosevelt, Utah. This new marriage moved her two miles North to Boyd’s farm and added even more love to her life with Boyd’s five children.
In addition to raising her daughters, she worked in retail stores in Roosevelt: Ben Franklin, Sprouse Reitz, Costurous, and others throughout the years. Working on the farm alongside Carl were always the days she enjoyed the most. Whatever he was doing Merle was right there to lend a helping hand.
If Merle wasn’t out in the field, she would tend, improve, or increase the size of her flower beds. She was always busy dividing old plants and bringing home something new to plant from the generosity of a relative. She loved flowers of any kind and spent many happy hours bringing beauty to the yard.
Family is what Merle cherished most. She loved camping, reunions, vacations, celebrations, and sharing a meal together, basically spending time with them for any reason. She had enough love to go around with some left over. The “Little Grandma” in their lives will be forever missed.
Merle is survived by her husband, Boyd, daughters, Sheila Houtz and Shanna Sursa; stepchildren, Susan (Randy) Brudnicki, Debra (Don) Womack, Karl (RaNae) Powell, Dean (Patty) Powell, Brent (Ann Marie) Powell; siblings, Charles (Mary) Springer, Carol Felter, Roleen (Daniel) Bird. She is grandmother to Melinda, Tracy, and Levi, great grandmother to Jordyn, Randi, Rylan, Regan, Jaxson, Jaden, Kyree; and great great grandmother to Sarah, along with Boyd’s 18 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl; sons-in-law, Eric Houtz and Ronnie Sursa; great grandson, Brinden Sursa; step-great granddaughter, McKenzie Nielsen; siblings, Lela Springer, Ida Anderton, Dwight Springer, Loretta Springer, and by one day, Roy “Shorty” Springer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, at 11:00 AM at the Neola Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Viewings will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Hullinger Mortuary and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 - 10:45 AM.
