McCoy Jay Powell

McCoy Jay Powell was born November 15, 2007, in Roosevelt, Utah to Jay and Amy Powell. He had the cutest dimples on his cheeks and a glimmer in his eyes from day one. He died June 19, 2026 in a semi accident while riding with his dad who survived.

Coy was in love with semi-trucks since I can remember. His favorite movie was “Smokey and the Bandit.” He always wanted a basset hound named, “Fred,” to ride in his truck with him. He also was on the lookout for a Trans Am. He could tell you the make, model, year and what kind of engine of every semi he saw had. Sometimes his dad couldn’t tell and that made him happy to know something his dad didn’t know. Even if it was a mile down the road he could tell what it was. All he ever wanted to do was drive truck. He just graduated high school and was about to start his CDL course at the tech center in Roosevelt.

Coy was a tease and even though he didn’t show it all the time loved his siblings with all his heart.

McCoy loved Pepsi, Nutty-Buddys and Subway sandwiches. When the Subway crew saw his truck pulling in, they already had his steak and cheese sandwich made before he walked in the door. He loved model semi-trucks. He loved real semi-trucks. His favorite truck was his 1978 Kenworth w900a that he, his dad and brothers worked to get running again to start a trucking business. I'm sure he is leading a big, long convoy in the sky with “Fred, the Basset Hound” by his side.

Coy was a computer genius. He also loved to play video games like “American Truck Simulator,” where he joked that he had driven in every state except Alaska and Hawaii.

Coy leaves behind many friends young and old who took his advice straight to heart. He had a contagious laugh and a giving personality, which he was very humble about.

Coy is survived by his parents, Jay and Amy; siblings, Kaycee (Harley) Edwards, Kota (Kenzie) Powell, Kaytlyn (Tyler) Burr, Wyatt (McKinley) Powell, Morgan Powell Quincy Powell, and Emily Powell; nieces, BillieJean, Murphy, Amelia, and Alison; nephews: Fysher, Ryver, and McRae, along with two more on the way. He adored his nieces and nephews. He was afraid to hold them when they were teeny but loved them like crazy. He is also survived by his grandparents, Kendall and Anita Rasmussen, great grandma, Kay Rasmussen and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arnold and Louise Powell and so many more family members and friends.

We love you and miss you so much, Coy. Until we meet again.
