Maylene Morningstar Pinnecoose-Sam, age 36, of Ft. Duchesne, had her final sunset on May 27, 2025, at her family home in Ft. Duchesne, surrounded by her husband, children, and one of her two younger sisters.

Her first sunrise was March 10, 1989, in Roosevelt, to Todd Mair, Sr., and Gwennita Tahguv, both of Ft. Duchesne. She married Jason OneEagle Sam on April 30, 2009, in Vernal, Utah. Maylene and Jason lived in Battle Mountain, Nevada, for ten years and finally moved to Utah in 2019.

Maylene attended Union High School in Roosevelt and graduated in 2008. She wanted to pursue a career criminal science after high school. She was also anxious to join the workforce in the oil fields of Utah, but took a different route in life.

Playing sports was Maylene’s way to stay active. She enjoyed girls fast pitch softball, volleyball, soccer, and other various sports. She also participated in numerous state, local, and tribal pageants. Her hobbies also included spending time with family, camping, fishing, and hunting, just as long as she was outdoors. Her favorite pastimes were shopping at fiVe BEL°W and doing her make-up – she loved trying new looks.

Maylene is survived by her husband, Jason; their three children, Raiden LittleThunder, Mimslin Rai, and WoodAh Shoden Sam; siblings, CideahZah, Taina (Dorsey Dick), Meridian, Sierra, Taylor (Kam Harris), Kaldurion, & Gerrael Pinnecoose; great-grandpa, Lornie (Gay) Pinnecoose; great-grandmother, Claria Pinnecoose and families; aunt, LeeAnn Pinnecoose; uncle, Bradley (Tina) Pinnecoose; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives from Utah and Colorado.

She was preceded in eternal rest by her son, Jaycdin Sam; mother, Gwennita Tahguv; brother, Sho Pinnecoose; grandparents, Winifred Cuch, Alfonso “Poncho” Cuch, Sr.; Alvin Pinnecoose, Virginia Pinnecoose; Evelyn Pinnecoose and other Taylor and Pinnecoose family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building. There will be a wake on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. at the community building.

Following the services there will be cremation.
