Lydia Ellen Hampton, age 64, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She left this earth holding hands with her best friend and beloved husband, Lloyd.
Lydia was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Theodore and Elizabeth Daly. Growing up in New Orleans, she developed a deep love for the arts—especially music—but her true passion was her work as an occupational therapist. Over the course of her career, she treated hundreds of patients and mentored countless OT students. Among those students were her OT “sons,” Chris and Ben, who affectionately called her their “therapy mom.” Ben once said of Lydia, “She taught me to treat all of my patients like they were my best friend. She is one of the most Christ like people I know.”
On April 29, 2017, Lydia married Lloyd Hampton, and their relationship was truly magical. Through that marriage, she became an instant mom and grandma to 13 children and 34 grandchildren, a role she embraced with joy, humor, and overflowing love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her nephew Ben, and her niece Arian.
Lydia is survived by her husband, Lloyd; her brothers, Teddy (Suzanne) and George; her sister, Leslie (Steve); her brothers and sisters in law, Tom (Jaynann), Verlinda (Steve), Michelle (Jim), and Jennifer (Mike); her 13 children and 34 grandchildren; and her dear friends Janet, Roberta, and Jen—“the Panel”—along with Trudy, Amy, and the beloved “Watercolor Wednesday Girls” (Bonnie and Paula), as well as many others whose lives she touched.
Lydia left an indelible mark on this world and will be deeply missed. The family wishes to sincerely thank all who cared for her through her illness, including Dr. Haslem, Dr. Sims, the UBMC Infusion staff, and the Canyon Hospice staff.
We love you, Lydia. We will never forget your infectious smile and those beautiful baby blues.
