Lupe Duncan

Lupe Marie LaRose Duncan, age 80, of Whiterocks, passed away on February 4, 2015, at the Utah Valley Specialty Hospital in Provo.
She was born December 10, 1934, in Ft. Duchesne, to James R. and Lena Tabbee LaRose.  She married Clifford H. Duncan and they later divorced.
Lupe was a hard worker – she worked full time as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 20 years at the Duchesne County Hospital, as well as part-time at the Stewart’s Convalescent Center, in her spare time, all the while raising her four children. Toward the end of her career, she went to work as the nurse for the Ute Tribe Head Start Program.
She really enjoyed going to Pow Wows, traditional ceremonies, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, gambling, extensive travel, and watching her daytime “soaps.”  She was a bit of a shop-aholic – her motto being, “If you can’t decide which one to buy, buy them both.”  She was an avid reader – Dean Koontz novels being her favorite, an extensive writer in her journals, and was a great homemaker  Her circle of friends was ever increasing, because, to her, everyone was a friend.
Lupe was a member of the Episcopal Church and Native American Church.
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved them dearly and all of their pictures are hanging on the walls at her home.
She also had a great love of animals, especially her cats.
Lupe is survived by her children, Lena Duncan, Odenton, Maryland; Dawn Duncan, Whiterocks; Baldwin (Penny) Duncan, Roosevelt; and adopted daughter, Carla Parker-Wallace.  Grandchildren include: Jenna (Conroy) Reed, Brandon Duncan, Carrie Cuch (Adele Bernouke), Sarah Jane Duncan, Austin Ellis, Noreen Johnson (Robert Winfrey, III), Laura Duncan (Pacer Toponotes); and nine great-grandchildren. Sisters and brother include: Hugh Jenks, Shirleta LaFramboise, Gertrude Tahguv, Clarice Ignacio.  She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lena; daughter, Cliftene M. Duncan; brothers and sisters, Nettie Ecker, LaMar LaRose, Norma Jean LaRose Grey, and Jimmie LaRose.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Whiterocks.  There will be a wake at her home on Sunday after 4:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Ouray-Tabbee Cemetery
