Loyal Lorraine Brown Pett, a beloved mother, grandmother, missionary, friend, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 19, 2026, at the age of 79. Born in Australia on February 15, 1947, Loyal lived a life centered on her family, her faith in Jesus Christ, and her love for others. To her children, she was far more than a mother. She was a best friend, a source of comfort, a prayer offered in difficult moments, and a constant reminder that they were loved. Since her passing, her family has been overwhelmed by the number of people who have reached out to share what Loyal meant to them. Again and again, people have said, “She was like a mother to me,” or that they considered her their second mom. Her family always knew how deeply they loved her, but they are now discovering just how far her love reached. She touched more lives than she probably ever realized. Loyal was extraordinarily kind and giving. She worried about the people she loved, prayed for them, encouraged them through their struggles, and rejoiced with them during their happiest moments. She was there for her children at their lowest and celebrated alongside them at their highest. Her grandchildren were precious to her, and she loved and supported them endlessly. Her faith was at the center of her life. Loyal had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a deep love for missionary work. She served a mission herself, but in many ways, her mission never really ended. Throughout her life she continued trying to bring people closer to the Savior—not only through the things she said, but through the way she loved them. When Loyal passed, she was peacefully resting on her side in her bed, her face turned toward the window at the beautiful trees outside that she had so often admired and spoken about with her family, a peace overwhelming on her face. Nearby were her reading glasses and the things she had been reading: her scriptures, including the Bible and the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as a book about the signs of the Savior’s Second Coming. For those who knew how deeply Loyal loved the Lord, there was something particularly meaningful about finding her surrounded by the things that had occupied so much of her heart. Even while preparing for her own death, Loyal was still being a mother. Her greatest wish was that her family would remain close to the Savior and that someday they could all be together again. She reminded them of the importance of this life, repentance, faith, and preparing for eternity. And she left behind a simple sentence that beautifully captures the heart of the woman her children knew: “A mother never stops loving her children.” Loyal never did. She also left another message for everyone she loved. Written prominently in her own hand were the words: “DO NOT BE SAD.” She wanted her family to know that she was happy. Because of her faith, she looked forward to being reunited with her father, her mother, her brother, her grandparents, and the loved ones who had gone before her. Not being sad may be the one request from Loyal that those who loved her will find nearly impossible to fulfill. They are sad because they miss her. They miss her voice. They miss her prayers. They miss her kindness. They miss her worrying about them. They miss knowing they could turn to her. They miss the woman who could somehow become a second mother to people who weren’t even her children. But alongside that sadness is tremendous gratitude. Gratitude that they were able to call her Mom and Grandma and friend. Gratitude for the countless prayers she offered on their behalf. Gratitude for the example she gave them. Gratitude for her testimony of Jesus Christ. And gratitude that when her earthly life came to an end, she passed peacefully in her own bed, surrounded by the scriptures and family looking toward the beautiful trees outside her window she was not alone. Loyal spent her life searching for truth, sharing her faith, loving her family and friends trying to make the lives of the people around her a little better. Her time on earth has ended, but the love she gave has not. We love you so much, Mom. Thank you for every prayer, every calendar, every handwritten note, every little act of kindness, and every moment you spent loving us. We all will go on a “Waltzing Matilda” with you. Until we meet again. ❤ Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Slate Canyon Chapel, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1315 East 900 South, Provo, Utah. The family will receive friends from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow in the Provo City Cemetery.
