Watch Live Stream HERE Lewis James Hackford, age 92, passed away March 8, 2024, at his home in Tabiona, Utah.
He was born June 19, 1931, in Fort Duchesne, Utah, to Melvin LeRoy and Eva Fontella Van Hackford., he was the fifth of ten children. His early years were spent in Fort Duchesne and Lapoint, Utah.
Lew began herding cows at the age of 14. He first came to Tabiona in 1949 herding sheep in Little Valley, at the age of 18. In the fall of 1950 he met the love of his life, Cleo Renna Jones. They were married January 5, 1951.They just celebrated their 73rd anniversary.
They raised 5 children, LouAnn , Lorna, Judy, Tab and Johnny. He was a Sheep man for several years until he became a trapper for the state of Utah. He retired after 27 years of service during which he was honored with many awards for his service. He spent most of his life doing what he loved being in the mountains with his horse.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo Hackford of Tabiona; daughter, Judy (Tom) Warren of Tabiona; son, Johnny Hackford of Salt Lake City; sister, June Murdock of Fort Duchesne; and daughter-in-law, Toni Hackford of Texas; 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
He is enjoying a reunion with many family members, including; his daughters, LouAnn Wood , Lorna Hackford, son, Tab Hackford, his parents, Melvin and Fontella, brothers and sisters, Dolores Zufelt, Lucille Lopez, Elda Green, Edith Hackford, Bernice Morris, Lyle (Bish) Hackford, Dave Hackford, and Lynn Hackford.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tabiona Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Tabiona Cemetery.
