Larry Eugene Henley, age 79, of Ballard, passed away at this hom on February 21, 2024.
He was born in Clovis New Mexico on July 21, 1944 to Jack Henley and Virginia McCrary Henley.
When Larry was at a young age his family moved about extensively as his father was then a lineman and worked to bring power throughout the rural Midwest and mountain states. They finally settled in Shamrock Texas where he attended school and made many childhood friends. In his early teens he began working for some of the ranches in the Shamrock area. He eventually quit school in favor of being employed and became a full-time cowboy. Working as a ranch hand on one the larger Ranches in the Texas Panhandle at the time he was asked if he would like to work a hitch on a drilling rig for one of the rigs drilling on the ranch. He did so and when he collected his pay at the end of the day, which amounted to one month’s pay on the ranch. He sold his saddle and never looked back. Larry traveled the country chasing Rigs and oil booms and by the 1970’s he had drilled a hole in the ground in every US state excluding Hawaii. Chasing oil booms brought him to the Uintah Basin which he immediately took a liking to and decided to make his home there. This is where he met Carol Felter and they married in November of 1972.
Larry retired from the oilfield in the early 90’s and began attending college at USU where he earned his business degree. He and Carol also opened an art gallery in Roosevelt, Utah upon his retirement and this is where he would be found for the next several years. As Carol approached retirement, they sold their shop and their home in Roosevelt and found a place they both loved just out of town. They both spent the next few years there getting things just as they wanted them. When it looked like he was about to run out of things to do he ventured back into the oilfield and began working at a rental company which allowed him an opportunity to visit those drilling rigs that he always had a love for. Many years later he retired once again and spent the rest of his years doing whatever he wanted.
He is survived by his wife Carol, son Jack (Jessica), daughter Dana (Mitch) Kofford, granddaughters, Chevelle, Lexus, Opal, Ashley and Kolby, grandson LaDrue.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
