Judith Frandsen passed from this life June 14, 2025, one day shy of her 84th birthday, from causes incidental to living a long, full and active life.
Judith was born June 15, 1941, to Alphonzo Barton Madsen and Emily Manila Erickson Madsen in Provo, Utah. She grew up in Duchesne, Utah, where she attended Duchesne High School and was active in the marching band and was a cheerleader, graduating in 1959. She attended and graduated from Stevens-Henager Business College in Salt Lake City before working for First Security Bank. The skills she acquired there later served her well as she kept the books for the family business as well as the farm.
She married Donald E. Frandsen in Duchesne on November 26, 1960, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 26, 1968. Donald passed away March 1, 2011. Three children were born to Donald and Judy: Mike, Carrie Lynn and Brenda.
In the early years of her marriage, she lived in Georgia, California and Wyoming before coming back to Utah and living in Salt Lake City. In 1971 Judy and Donald were able to return to the Uintah Basin. She has resided in Talmage since that time. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a firm testimony of the Gospel and held many callings in Young Women, Primary and Relief Society. She especially enjoyed her time as an ordinance worker in the Vernal Utah Temple where she made some good friends and had many special experiences.
She rode horses, moved cows, fed cows, worked cows, often cussed cows, irrigated, baled hay, raised gardens and canned the produce. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, often sewing her kids school clothes until they went to high school.
Her family was her greatest delight, and her grandchildren made things even better. She loved the mountains and hiking all over them with her family.
She was a talented artist, producing many oil paintings in her earlier years before the demands of life didn’t leave time for that anymore.
Judy is survived by her children: Mike (Gaylinn) Frandsen, Carrie Lynn (Shane) Shiner, Brenda Lamb, sister-in-law, Carolyne Madsen, eight grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Alphonzo and Manila Madsen; father- and mother-in-law, Elmer and Cleo Frandsen; brothers, Myron and Ralph Madsen; sister, Melva Allred, and infant sister, Mildred; brother-in-law, Max Allred; sister-in-law, Ruth Madsen, and son-in-law, Glenn Lamb.
