Joseph Lee Wood

November 27, 1960 — April 24, 2023

Ft. Duchesne, UT

Joseph Lee Wood, age 62, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away April 24, 2023, at his home.
He was born November 27, 1960, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Robert Newell and Beverly LaVern Maybee Wood.  He married Christine Lynn MacClennan on November 27, 1985.  They later divorced.
Joseph worked as a wood boss for a logging company when he lived in Oregon.  He had the nickname of “Papa Smurf” because he was a hardworker, but was a little shorter and always had a long beard.  He also had been a construction worker when moving to the Uintah Basin.  He was a favorite uncle and his son, Robert’s, best friend.  He took care of his sister, Luanna, for many years after her husband died.  He enjoyed fishing in the ocean off the coast of Oregon, hanging out and watching TV, and fixing cars – especially for friends and family.  He loved dogs, especially his favorite, “Aries.”
Joseph is survived by his children, Sarah Miner, Moses Lake, Washington; Robert Wood, Ft. Duchesne; Lonnie & Joe Wood, both of Port Orchard, Washington; granddaughters, Alexis, Sophia, and Chelsea; siblings, Delia Wood, Packwood, Washington; Frank (Margaret) Wood, St. Anthony, Idaho; Donna Anderson, Valerie Anderson, both of Salt Lake City; Annette Grossnickle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Lee Wood; his parents; siblings, Bobby, Bill, Ila Ray Wood, and Luanna Chapoose.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary.  Following the viewing, he will be cremated.
