Jonathan Jay Cuch, age 48, of Indian Bench, passed away December 23, 2022, at his home after a long illness.
He was born March 12, 1974, in Roosevelt, to Perry Tapoof and Johanna Cuch and was raised by his grandparents, Flora Irene and Albert Cornpeach. He married Stephenie Joyce Arrowchis on August 1, 2001, in Roosevelt.
Jonathan was currently working for the Ute Indian Tribe as a mapping technician. He went to the police academy at Colorado Northwestern Community College in his younger days. He wrestled in high school and rode bulls in the Ft. Duchesne Rodeo. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He liked to watch WWE wrestling and tell the best ghost stories.
Jonathan was very traditional in his beliefs and his main purpose and drive in life was to be with, and sing with, his grandfather Albert “Aapachee” Cornpeach. He would travel all over the country singing for Sun Dances, Pow Wows, and would take part in Peyote Meetings and Sweats. He wanted to teach everyone the traditional ways and the traditional songs, especially the young people. He was part of everyone’s drum groups, but the main one being Dark Canyon Singers.
He loved spending time with his grandbabies, they were the #1 in his life. He is now reunited with his good friend and mother-in-law, Delores Arrowchis.
Jonathan is survived by his aunt, ina Jane Nephi; wife, Stephenie; his children, Loreesa (Judd) Black, Jessica Black, Myahh Cuch, Tonye Cuch; grandchildren, Jeanesa & Johanna Cuch, Silas, Anevay, & Joycie Teague; all of Indian Bench; siblings, Angelique Anderson; Perrylynn (Tyrone) McKewan, Anna Cornpeach, Kayleena (George) Salinas, Wallace Tapoof (Heather Manning), Jerrylynn Tapoof; Richard, Alex, Arden, Frankie, & Jason Cornpeach; niece, Rosalia Cornpeach, Sonceray & Avaaq Salinas; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Tapoof & Johanna Cuch; grandparents, Irene & Albert Corneach; Mary Elizabeth & Bert Tapoof; siblings, Alberta LaRose, Julie, Mayleen, & Daniel Cornpeach, Tynell Tapoof; his uncles whom he’s now singing with in Heaven, William, Howard, Charlie, Curtis, Jimmy Dew Little, & Bobbie Cuch; Eric Ecker LaRose; Tilford Tapoof; and an aunt, Marie Taveapont; sister-in-law, Ms. Beverly Jean Arrwochis; brothers-in-law, Michael & Lloyd Arrowchis, Jr.; mother-in-law, Delores Arrowchis.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Whiterocks Community Building. There will be a wake at his home on Monday after 3:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery.
