Johnny Slim

October 18, 1955 — May 10, 2024

Roosevelt, UT

Johnny Slim, age 68, of Roosevelt, passed away May 10, 2024, at the Utah Valley Hospital.
He was born October 18, 1955, in Cedar Ridge, Arizona, to Jack and Bessie Bitsuie Slim.  His foster-parents were  Floyd & Ruby Tanner.  He married Ilona Gardner on February 14, 1980, in Farmcreek, Utah.
Johnny worked for over 45 years in the oil field.  He had a great sense of humor and was a devoted family man, following his grandkids wherever they were playing sports or performing.  He took great pride in teaching his family the traditional native ways, and his first language was the Navajo language.  He enjoyed taking part in Bear Dances, Pow Wows, and loved family reunions.  He was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan.  He had great patience, never raised his voice– though you knew when he was mad– and was kind, but stern.  He’d help anyone, raised many foster children, and was always there for his family.  His greatest and first love was his wife, Sam, they were together for 48 years, and his grandkids were his pride and joy.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ilona, of Roosevelt; his children, Athenya (Jeremy) Swain, Ft. Duchesne; John (Stana) Slim, Roosevelt; David (Jennifer) Slim, Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Shyan Slim, Shaneesa (George) Limberty, Marion Slim, Sophia Swain, Elexis Slim, Tylee Slim,  Jhase Slim, Kenna Slim, Jade Slim (Mario Castillo); Mia & Aiden; great-grandkids, Maicie Slim, Mahkaii,Slim, Orson Little Eagle, Saydee Limberty, Alaiyah Limberty, JJ Limberty; Stella Slim, a foster-son, Christopher Tabbee (Sohia Buffalo); grand-children, Samuel Tabbee-Buffalo, Tdu’doop Tabbee-Buffalo; siblings, Joe (Betty) Slim, Susie BigMan, Anita Hoover, David (Guadalupe) Slim, Kenneth (Colleen) Slim, Max (Darlene) Slim; his foster-siblings, Juliann Geesey, Jill Faragher, Marshall (Donna) Tanner; and numerous niece, nephews, from Arizona to Utah, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sonny Slim; brother, Ray Slim; sister, Dorothy Paul; his parents; and foster- parents.
There will be a viewing on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Hullinger Mortuary from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Following the viewing, he will be cremated.
