JoAnn Callister Miles, age 80, of Mt Emmons, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2021, at home.
She was born May 25, 1940, to Joseph Lathel and Margaret Church Callister. She was raised on a farm in Delta, Utah, with her fifteen siblings. They enjoyed singing together, creating beautiful harmony around the piano, and softball games in their large yard. She graduated from Delta High School and Delta LDS Seminary. She attended Brigham Young University and received a degree in Housing and Home Management. In 1964, she got a job with the USU Extension Services to help with a new housing project on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation. She met Douglas Miles in Roosevelt, Utah, and they were married June 23, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple.
JoAnn was happy to become a full time homemaker living in Mt. Emmons, Utah, on the Miles Ranch. She and Doug raised their six children there. She always had a church calling and enjoyed playing the piano, singing in choirs, and working on family history. She was a classy lady with a sweet, tender love for her family and the gospel of Jesus Christ. She said she had a good life and enjoyed the mountains and the quiet country life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We know she is watching over us and hope she finds a way to send her special recipe so that we can carry on the tradition of her home made bread.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Douglas; children, Layne (Jayne) Miles, Sue Ann (Kelly) Crozier, Janet (Ross) Clark, Thomas Miles, Marjory (John) Howes, Charles (Wendy) Miles; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 7 brothers and 6 sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lathel and Margaret Callister; grandson, Jake Howes; great-grandson, Brody Crozier; and brothers, Sheldon and Raymond Callister.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines the funeral service will be for immediate family only, but it will be live-streamed here. Masks will be required for those who attend the services. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Altamont Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a visitation at the church on Tuesday, prior to the services, from 9:30-10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Altamont Cemetery.
