Jean Marian Dietz, age 77, of Neola, passed away at her home on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Jean was born on December 19, 1946, in Baker, Montana, to John Francis Leonard and Margaret Adelaide Christiansen.
Jean grew up in Marmarth, North Dakota and went to Baker High School. She married Richard Dietz on December 19, 1970, in Buffalo, South Dakota. She was happy to become the stepmother to Jeff, Michael, and Gary Dietz. Richard died November 20, 2022.
Richard worked in oilfields across the country, and they eventually brought their family to settle in the Uintah Basin.
Jean and Richard were married for 51 years, and they enjoyed watching their family grow up in the Basin. They spent many happy summers boating and water-skiing at Bottle Hollow and Sandwash Reservoirs.
As they got older, Jean and Richard tried their hands at raising ostriches. Jean enjoyed taking care of the ostriches, and especially loved to create art from the ostrich eggs. Jean and Richard also spent 20 years as caretakers of Skinwalker Ranch.
Jean had a happy, bubbly personality and would look ahead to the future with positivity. She was a talented artist and spent a lot of time working with oil paints. She also made beautiful cards for friends and family. She believed that life should be colorful! She would add color to her surroundings in a lot of whimsical ways, from bedazzling her brand-new Apple monitor to dying her hair purple. Her nails were always done in cheerful colors, and she had quite the collection of eye-catching purses, shoes, and glasses.
She was also a wonderful grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her son, Gary (Dedra) Dietz; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, her siblings, and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; sons, Jeffrey Allen and Michael Boyd Dietz; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Jean's Home. In remembrance of Jean, wear something purple. Services will be zoomed. Link will be posted a few days before services.
