Listen to Obituary

Janet Lea Patterson Cuch, age 71, of Lapoint, Utah, passed away on July 27, 2025, while visiting one of her cherished places, the Sundance grounds in Neola.

She was born March 7, 1954, in Olympia, Washington, to LeRoy and Beulah Lee Eddington Patterson. She married Edwin Cuch, with whom she shared several children, and they later divorced. She married David Weyerman, who preceded her in death.

Janet dedicated much of her career to serving as a legal advocate within the Ute Indian Tribal Court. Through her curiosity and care, Janet explored genealogy and stories from her and her children's family history. She eagerly shared what she discovered with her children, helping them feel grounded in who they are and where they come from. She embraced and supported her children's Native traditions, often attending Pow Wows, Bear Dance, and Sundance, alongside them, honoring their culture with deep respect and pride.

Outside of work, Janet found simple joys: sewing, canning, cooking and hunting for treasures at yard sales. Her home was always full of books, plants, and laughter, and she was quick to share a story, a jar of homemade jam, or a rock she found on her latest walk.

Above all, Janet loved her family, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family will forever carry her love in their hearts.

Janet is survived by her children: Peter (Lois) Boome, University Place, Washington; Mariah Cuch, Nepal; Sarah Cuch, Lapoint; Jenny Cuch (Chaz Mojado), Lapoint; Eli Cuch, Missouri; as well as 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and her siblings, Glenda Weyerman, Dry Fork; Maya Sanberg, Olympia, Washington; Beulah (John) Holman, Rochester, Washington; Bill (Esther) Patterson, Joseph City, Arizona; Becky (Steve) Grass, Pleasant Grove; Lora (Gary) Jewett, Jerome, Idaho; LeRoy (Christy) Patterson, Olympia, Washington; and numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Weyerman; a son, Samuel Sapanese Cuch; her parents, LeRoy and Beulah Patterson; and her sister, Carol.
