Jane Taveapont Steele, age 69, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away November 3, 2024, at her home.
She was born June 25, 1955, in Roosevelt, to Ray and Carrie Chase Thompson Taveapont. She married Herbert “Clark” Steele and he died April 8, 2013.
Jane worked for the Ute Indian Tribe in many capacities for 43.6 years. She was an EMT, worked with Search and Rescue, and was a receptionist for the Ute Tribe. She was a secretary for the Business Committee, a dispatcher for BIA, dispatcher and secretary for the Ute Indian Tribe Fish & Wildlife Department, where she retired from.
She traveled as often as possible, enjoyed picnics in the mountains, fishing, shopping, gambling, and going out to eat. She was a talented crocheter, and cook in her younger days. She would take part in Pow Wows and the Bear Dance.
Above everything, she loved her family and took care of everyone. She helped raise Cody Thompson and Jessie Miller.

Duchesne; Jesse (Daniel) Jenks, Vernal; Rayson (Marlene) Taveapont, Bekenneth (Jashaun) Taveapont, Jayson II, Conrad, Darwin & Rochelle Belding, Marcos, Zuhailey, & Mateo Cesspooch, Emily & Jenesis Jenks; Leanna, Rosetta, Melinda, Ceron, Sal, Braxton, Mary, Sheila, & Delnaleen Wopsock; Zipporah Apporas, Jonathon, Kristopher, Stephanie, Shey, & Jacob Manning; Anthony Carols, Janell Carlos, Ansle Miller, Hauskie Miller, Torrance Miller, William Miler, Nathan, Chants, & Kyle Manning; and Glendora Carlos, Aspen & Maycee Manning.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Clark”; her children, Jawslynn & LJ; Jessie Miller; parents; siblings Gregory & Raymond Taveapont, Rosemary Thompson; Ingrid & Sonja Wopsock; Beatrice, Rita, Lynn, Franky Taveapont; nieces and nephews, Kermit, Del, & Shauna Wopsock; Chase Taveaopnt; Earl Jr, Alex, Cory, Joshua, & Nicholas Manning, Trooper Jenks, and Antonia Carlos.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary.
The burial will be held at the Red Knoll Cemetery.
