Jan Michael Serawop

Jan Michael “Baby Jan” Serawop, age 46, of Ft. Duchesne, passed away July 11, 2023, at his home.
    He was born August 12, 1976, in Roosevelt, to Michael Lee and Marion Cuch Serawop.  He graduated from Sherman Indian School and then attended Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
    Jan Michael was a roustabout in the oilfield and a Ute Indian Tribe Fish & Game Law Enforcement Conservation Officer.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being in the outdoors, and was always traveling to somewhere.  He was a talented drawing artist and used his skills to tattoo others.  He was known as a “ride or die” Raiders Fan, played the guitar, and loved all his children in his own way.  He was traditional, taking part in the Sundance and Sweats.  He will be missed by all of his family and friends. 
    Jan Michael is survived by his children, Micheal A Serawop, Alysia Serawop, both of Arizona; Dominic Morningdove, New Mexico; Quinn Ray Serawop, Colorado; adopted sons, Ryan Currin & Dion Murray; his mother, Marion Serawop, Ft. Duchesne; siblings, Raycita Quinn, Vernal; Quinton L. (Rosetta) Serawop, Whiterocks; Candace (John) Ladeaux, Malloree B. Serawop, Austin McCook, all of Ft. Duchesne; Sybil (Trinity) Garavatt, Roosevelt; K.C. (Shawnee) McCook, Ft. Duchesne; Alverna (Brian) Nelson, Carriebell Redfoot, MikkiSu Reed-Mountainlion; aunts, Kathy (Kenny) McCook, Dolly Cuch, Ginny & Irene Chimburas, Adelbert Tavashutz; uncle, Elliot Serawop, Phillip Chimburas; grandmother, Ina Jane Nephi; special nieces, Antonia Quinn, Rayma “Brown Sugar” Redcap, Kendall “Bugs Life” Taveapont; and numerous other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Michael; grandparents, Ruth Quinn, Ray Cuch, Lee & Sylvia Serawop; brothers, Kendall McCook, Parker Redfoot, Everett Duncan, Greg Quinn; adopted son, Ashton Murray.  
    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building.  There will be a wake after 4:00 p.m. on Friday at his mother, Marion’s, home (750 S 7685 E, Ft. Duchesne, UT).
    Burial will be in the Red Knoll Cemetery.
