Janet Elizabeth “Jan” Ross Deans, age 76, of Vernal, Utah, passed away on September 8, 2025 surrounded by family.
She was born on February 17, 1949, to Raymond F. and Elizabeth McCallum Ross in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second of four children.
On September 26, 1967, Janet became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Dannie L. Deans on August 19, 1970, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they made a life in Vernal and had four children. Having steadfast values of family, faith, and hard work, Jan raised her children to be strong, independent and self-sufficient. She taught them the value of having a strong family. She considered her life achievement was being a mother and raising four honorable children and one husband to be responsible adults.
Jan enjoyed writing, genealogy, going for rides and occasional rockhounding trips with her husband and dog. She was kind and a very caring person, always more concerned about others. She delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandson.
Jan was known for her respect and kindness toward others and her talent for teaching in Relief Society and Primary. She was known in the family for her amazing bottled pickles.
Jan is survived by her husband, Dan; daughters, Lisa Deans Wegener; Amy Deans (Mark) Singleton; sons, Alan Deans; Joel (Becca) Deans; 13 grandchildren;1 great grandson, her siblings, Raymond (Belinda) Ross; Deborah (Wayne) Dorman; John Ross; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Delcia Ross.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00am at the Ashley 3rd Ward Chapel (235 East 600 South Vernal, Utah). A viewing will be held that morning from 10:00-10:45 am.
Burial will be in the Rock Point Cemetery in Maeser.
