James Appawoo, age 40, of Ft. Duchesne, was killed May 19, 2021, in Ft. Duchesne.
He was born March 2, 1981, in Vernal, to Timothy Sirewop and Varrissa Appawoo.
James worked in a restaurant in his younger days, but most of his years were spent as a caretaker for his mother. He had a passion for barbequing, enjoyed rides to the mountains, liked to watch WWE wrestling, go swimming, share conspiracy theories, and was a movie fanatic. He walked everywhere, was very smart, getting most of his knowledge from reading books. He enjoyed playing darts, and often participated in sweats. He believed in his tradional ways and when on the right path he would often attend sweats.
His greatest love was his family, especially his daughter. He was close with all of them and was very protective. He was a simple man and very honest.
James is survived by his daughter, Danilynn Lopez-Appawoo; parents, Timothy Sirewop, Varissa Appawoo, both of Ft. Duchesne; siblings, Antonia (Ronald) Pena, Aloha, OR; Georgia Sirewop, Hilltop; Dayna Barcindebar, Salt Lake City; grandfather, Antone Appawoo; aunt, Antonette Appawoo-Penningjack; nieces & nephews, Audilynn, Acosia, Rosie, Verdell, Anthony, Ronnie, Johnny, Marcos; and seven great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Angel Appawoo; niece, Tetia Center; grandparents, Leah Appawoo; Pedro & Georgina Serawop.
A wake will be held in his honor after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 until Monday May 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at his mother, Varissa Appawoo’s home in Ft. Duchesne. Following the wake, he will be cremated.
