Freda Rose Colorow Groves, age 68, of Myton, died on April 11, 2024, at her home.
Freda was born on April 27, 1955, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Hewitt Everett Colorow and Melba Rita Accawinna Appawora. She married Roderick Lee Groves in June 1986, in Myton at the Myton Elementary School. He died on May 23, 2022.
Freda was a kind person with a beautiful heart. While she could be stubborn, she was a mother to all and would do all that she could to help family and friends. Freda was a very active person: she played sports in her younger years, including softball; organized camps and hunts; participated in the Bear Dance, Sundance, and Pow Wows; and traveled to many places with her family. She was known to be a good cook, and a talented beader and crafter. She enjoyed going to the movies, and was able to see the newest Ghostbusters movie. She used to host family nights with movies and popcorn and she relished family gatherings. She worked many years for the Ute Tribe Senior Citizens Department.
Above all, Freda loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Freda is survived by her children, Elaine Colorow (Josh Warenski), April (Paul) Young, Ashley Groves, and Melba Groves; grandchildren, Sarah Daisy, Lawrence Jenks, III, and Ruby Jenks (Nate Greaves), Justin Gonzales; great-grandchildren, Alyvia Accawanna, Melody and Valleno “Chips” Gonzales; siblings, Everett (Mary) Colorow, Lorretta (Duane) Burchick, Robert Colorow, Camille Appawora, Lynn Appawora, and Henry Appawora; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roderick, her parents, Hewitt and Melba, siblings, Velma Colorow Sireech, Eloise Colorow Ledbetter, Nelson Colorow, and Arvin Colorow; a granddaughter, Terri Rose Jenks; grandson, Dominick Red Sky Barton; an uncle, Willard Johnson; nieces and nephews, Cody Appawora, Benjamin Samuels, Jr., Willie Bates, Jr., Robin Colorow, Anthony Chavez, and Suzette Sireech; and step-father, William Appawora.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the Myton Community Building.
A wake will be held on Tuesday night after 4:00 PM at the community building.
