Elva Wedig

Elva LaNay Baum Wedig, age 90, of Roosevelt, passed away January 16, 2015, at the Uintah Basin Rehabilitation Center.
She was born December 16, 1924, in Strawberry, to Clarence and Ethel Marie Meznen Baum.  She married George Allison Wedig, Jr., on September 13, 1943.  They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  He died January 3, 2013.
Elva worked for many years as a licensed practical nurse and as a scrub tech for the Duchesne County Hospital.  She then ran the Frontier Motel and was the contact person in Roosevelt for the Basin Nickel Ads for about 20 and 30 years respectively.  She and George were foster parents to many children over the span of  50 years.
She was not a procrastinator and the “grass never grew under her feet.”  She always had things under control and she enjoyed being the boss.  Her hobbies included working in her yard, growing a vegetable garden, cooking, and keeping a tidy home.  She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the Relief Society and as an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple.   The highlight of her year was the Christmas party with all of her friends that worked at the Basin Nickel Ads.
Elva’s priority was her family.  She was George’s 24 hour nurse in his later years after he got ill.  She adored her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Karla) Wedig, Wickenburg, Arizona; LaNay (Glendon) Manwaring, Pleasant View; and Rex (Teresa) Wedig, Flattop, 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, George; son, DeLyle Wedig; brothers and sisters, Jessie Peatross, Lola White, Alvin Baum, Leo Baum and Melva Baum.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt 1st and 4th Ward LDS Chapel.  There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and from 10-10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Burial will be in the Strawberry Cemetery.
