Elaine C. Bowen, age 80, of Roosevelt, Utah, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, surrounded by family. A cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Elaine will be remembered for her intelligence, independence, beauty—both inside and out—and her quick wit that could brighten any room.
Born on September 28, 1945, in Roosevelt, Utah, Elaine was the beloved daughter of Miles Hyrum and Doris Lee Christensen. She grew up in the Uintah Basin, where she attended school in Altamont and proudly graduated from Altamont High School. Shortly after, Elaine pursued her passion for beauty and creative expression by attending beauty school, launching a long and successful career as a hairdresser.
For more than 35 years, Elaine devoted herself to her craft, developing lifelong
friendships with her clients and fellow stylists alike. She owned and operated two salons during her career—one in Altamont, located next to the Altamont Theatre, which her parents owned at the time, and later, Elaine’s Beauty Salon in Roosevelt, Utah. Her dedication, artistry, and professionalism left lasting impressions on everyone who sat in her chair.
On July 31, 1965, Elaine married William Lloyd Bowen in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they raised two children and shared 27 years of marriage before parting ways. Although life took them on different paths, Elaine’s deep love for her family remained steadfast.
Elaine’s world revolved around her children, Heather Bowen Daniels and Michael Bowen, and extended lovingly to her grandchildren and great-grandchild, who brought her immense joy and pride. Her family and friends often described her as highly intelligent—someone who approached life’s challenges with confidence and grace. She had an independent spirit, complemented by a warmth and humor that made her both admired and adored.
Beyond her profession, Elaine found delight in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. She was passionate about art and travel, always eager to explore new places and ideas. Her love for fitness kept her active and vibrant throughout her years, and she could often be found tending her cherished garden, watching movies, reading, or tackling crossword puzzles with her signature wit and determination. Her home was a reflection of her creative soul, full of color, laughter, and life.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Miles and Doris Christensen, and her brother, Mark H. Christensen.
She is survived by her children, Heather (David) Daniels, Roosevelt; Michael (Liz) Bowen, Bozeman, Montana; and her beloved grandchildren, Zachary Bowen, Bozeman, Montana; MacLain (Cali) Tomaino, Ballard; Kendal Bowen, Seattle, Washington; Benjamin (Kaitlyn) Daniels, Roosevelt; and great-grandchild, Eleanor Olive Tomaino, Ballard; each of whom will carry her spirit and memory in their hearts.
As per Elaine’s wishes, she was cremated and laid to rest in Altonah Cemetery next to her parents and brother. A private family service will be held at the time of her burial, honoring her life in the peaceful place she called home.
Elaine C. Bowen’s legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her brilliance, humor, and caring nature will be missed profoundly but remembered always.
