Duane Garfield

Duane Garfield, age 55, of Ft. Duchesne, died June 13, 2026, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center from a sudden heart attack.

He was born September 14, 1970, to Benny Garfield and Alice Jane Nez. He was raised by Ned & Levate Nez. He married Claire Post and they later divorced.

Duane was a fun loving guy who, in his earlier years, rode his BMX bike, 4-wheelers, and dirt bikes with his friends all around the Ft. Duchesne area. He enjoyed shopping, spending time with his family, taking rides to the mountains and getting stuck, hunting, fishing, and joking around. He was a good hearted man and his main love and focus were his grandchildren.

Duane is survived by his children, Damon Garfield, Salt Lake City; Raven Garfield, Ballard; twin daughters, Raisa & Raizel Garfield, both of Ft. Duchesne; claimed daughter, Allison Pargeets, Roosevelt; an oldest son who was adopted out; grandchildren, Calisa Tabbee, Caleb Tabbee Jr., Enzo Garfield, Trae Garfield, Anarae Garfield, Jolynn Cornpeach, Jesse Tahguv; mother, Alice Nez, Ft. Duchesne; sisters, Gaylene (Braxton) Wopsock, Whiterocks; Shalane (Avery) Checora, Lapoint; uncle, Larry Nez, Sr., aunt, Linda Artica; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Benny; siblings, Nolan, Jaylynn, & Glen Jack, Jr., grandparents, Levate & Ned Nez; cousins, Eli, Blake, Larry Jr, Elias, Jordan, Keith, & Draven Nez; and many other relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building. There will be a wake on Wednesday after 4:00 p.m. at the community building. Following the services, he will be cremated.
