Our Dad, David Gerald Hicken, age 72, of Ballard, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on March 29, 2026.
On April 28, 1953, Gerald Thomas and Dorothy Dee Stevenson Hicken welcomed the arrival of their first born son in Roosevelt Utah.
While growing up in Mountain Home, Roosevelt, and Tabby, he helped with cattle, farming, milking, and transporting milk with his dad. After high school he went to school to be a diesel mechanic.
On June 8, 1973, after a blind date, he married the love of his life and best friend Arlinda Rae Karren. September 30 1974, they welcomed the birth of their son, Derrick David; on March 19, 1977, they were blessed with the birth of their second son Damon Dedric;, and finally on December 20, 1982, they got their baby girl Holly Rae
Dad became a active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and on June 27, 1987, dad took his little family through the Salt Lake Temple to be sealed for all time and eternity
Through his life dad served in various church callings, two of his favorite callings were serving in the Vernal Temple every Saturday and every Tuesday serving as a service missionary for the spouse and family support group.
He worked various jobs throughout his life, business owner, farming, mechanic on various pieces of equipment, specializing in diesel engines , and driving truck. He has spent the last 8 years working for UIIP, keeping those pesky Russian olives sprayed and cut down , along with trapping nuisance beaver all over the basin for various ditch companies.
Dad enjoyed hunting, trapping, coaching little league baseball, oil painting and being a foster grandparent.
One of his proudest moments was serving with his friends and fine veterans of the American Legion post #64
But out of everything he did in life the one thing he loved the most was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
Dad could light up any room with his contagious laugh and his spitfire personality!!
Dad we love you and miss you already.
He is survived by his wife, Arlinda of almost 53 years, sons, Derrick, and Damon (Alli), daughter, Holly (Eric) Oman all of Roosevelt; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, with twin great-granddaughters on the way, brothers, Gary (Cindy) Roosevelt; Brad (Pam) Mantua, UT; Shane Hicken, Roosevelt; sisters- in-law, Karla (Alan) Fowles , Las Vegas NV; Paula (Brent) McClure, Roosevelt; brothers-in-law, Karl, George (Angie) and Dalves Karren, all of Vernal, UT; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Dorothy Hicken, Karl and Donna Karren, nephew, Brenden T Hicken and many amazing friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Roosevelt East Stake Center. Viewings will be held on Friday evening at the Hullinger Mortuary from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and Saturday at the church from 10:00 - 10:45 AM.
Burial will be in the Mountain Home-Boneta Cemetery.
