Dale M. Gines, age 93, of Hanna, Utah, saddled up and rode peacefully into the sunset on August 28, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 23, 1932, in Tabiona, Utah, to Moral and Theo Mitchell Gines, Dale was raised with grit, faith, and a deep love for the land. He was a proud Tabiona Tiger, played high school basketball, and remained the team’s most loyal fan for life. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
On May 4, 1957, he married the love of his life, Linda Lee Thomas, in Tabiona. Later, their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1963—a covenant that became the anchor of their nearly 70 years together.
Dale learned to work the timbers alongside his father and later spent more than 33 years with the Utah Department of Transportation. He was also instrumental in bringing the Hanna water project to completion. But his true calling was being a cowboy. A lifelong cattleman—honored as Cattleman of the Year in 2012—he loved the open range, the feel of the lines and the sound of his team pulling a wagon. In 1997, he drove his horses from Omaha, Nebraska, to Salt Lake City in the reenactment of the pioneers’ 150th trek west. In 2002, he drove in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Winter Games, and he even made the big screen in Chuck Norris’ Paradise Valley.
A man of the land, Dale found peace in wide-open country and strength in his faith. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, held strong to the Book of Mormon, and served faithfully in many callings, including the High Priests Group Leadership and the Fruitland Branch Presidency. He was the kind of cowboy who led with quiet strength, integrity, and trust.
Above all, Dale was a family man. He could always be found with a grandchild by his side—teaching them to work hard, ride straight, and live right. He had a gift for making friends out of strangers and making everyone feel at home.
He is survived by his sweetheart Linda; children: Leland D. (Julie Tena) Gines, Tabiona; Dale Ann (Charles) Lindsay, Talmage; Joel T. (Heidi) Gines, Hanna; Sue Lyn Young, Talmage; Patty Jean Parkhurst, Las Vegas, NV; Linda Liz (Stacey) Porter, N Harmony, UT; Gala Marie (Lance) Hatch, Diamondville, WY; Jan Morene (William) Dunn, El Paso, TX; along with a legacy of 49 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren. sister in law Veola Gines of Tabiona, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was welcomed on the other side by his parents, his great-grandson Grayson Pliler, infant sister Delores , sister Jean Fabrizio, and brother Robert Max Gines.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tabiona Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewings will be held Friday evening at the church from 6–8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:30–10:45 a.m.
Burial will follow at the Tabiona , UT Cemetery , where Dale will be laid to rest with military honors presented by the Duchesne American Legion.
He will be remembered as a true cowboy—steady in the saddle, faithful to his family, and loyal to his God.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
